Does anyone carry a printer with them whilst travelling ? Thinking it would be handy for printing off docs etc for re entry to UK.. Something small and portable that will print from a smart phone would be great..BUSBY.

I bought an HP Deskjet 3762. It was a pain in the behind to get to work but now it is working it's good. Not exactly miniature but a good quality print plus it copies and scans. It was bought to use in the van and was the cheapest of the small printers I could get at the time - needed to print and copy things at my parents' house. They don't have internet so the direct print option was a requirements but generally I use it as an wireless printer.

Folded down it is about 41 cm wide, 19 cm deep and 15 cm tall - in operational mode it's 41 x 41 x41 (largest dimensions) if that helps.

The only real issue I have with it is that the updates make it forget it's settings! I have a subscription to Instant Ink which works well for me as I do a lot of printing.

I have an earlier model of the 3700, a 3730. Had it for 3-4 years now, copies and scans. Connects wireless through my router. As mentioned has been temperamental but that was down to MS changing approach to drivers. I use it everyday in the van to print out crosswords from the digi paper for my wife. Also comes in handy now for printed covid crap. Had documents emailed that needed my signature and then posted back home.
It's one of the smallest out there and for an all in one too. As usual the inks are highway robbery I just carry enough for however long I am away.

We used to carry one when we full timed, but the ink used to dry up cos we didn’t use it enough! Gave up in the end!

Printing from a smart phone is always a bit testing as you need the app and it always seems smoke and mirrors to me but I use Win 10, my wife has an Android tablet and it's 50/50 if she can get something to print. It will take perseverance. I had a pile of grief with the legacy drivers on my laptop and finally just cleared out everything HP on my laptop and loaded the Win 10 app. Now, touch wood, it's been fine.

I did have an HP 450 portable printer but it died and the portable ones are a couple of hundred quid so not replaced it. It was good when we didn't have hardly any data could print out things before going out for the day, now with data not missed it.

Like you say it could useful but I can't be bothered to lug a full size printer around I carry enough junk as it is.

we can barely get the ones indoors to work week to week so if they want stuff printed they'll have to be doing it themselves

I have a HP M15W Laserjet printer, so no injet ink drying up issues. At the time advertised as the smallest laserjet printer. I use it in the van powered by a msw inverter. No problems printing from a win 10 laptop or Samsung tablet Tab A and android phone j5, j6.
B&W ONLY. So far the most economical printer ive ever owned.
Edit
Best bit of junk i carry, apart from the washing machine.

Even after 30 years of computer experience I still find printing a bit of a black art. Found HP very trying, now using Canon, still very trying!

Something in the back of my mind seems to think that some Libraries do a print service for a small fee, (or used to before Covid)
would that help?

Used to before retiring.
They worked off 12v or mains adapter, but ink would dry out after long periods of not being used.
Ended up scrapping two over the years.
Decided that if something needs printing I'd email it to site reception and pay a few pence for the prints.

Just bought a Canon Pixma TR150. Wireless printing from laptop, tablets and phones. Small enough to fit neatly under seating. Bought it because reviews were good. Only downsides are usual cost of ink and for some reason, smaller things are more expensive.

Just like me!

We have a Brother PJ-773. It is a tiny printer as wide as a piece of A4 paper, otherwise, about the same size as a packet of fags. Hellishly expensive to buy, but can fit in your glove box, your pocket, anything. It prints on thermal paper, so never needs ink. B&W only. Works a treat from your phone, tablet or PC. Been very happy with it apart from the initial outlay. Here's a link...........

I found the HP helpline to be brilliant - I would have taken the printer back as busby did except I needed to print out the stuff for my parents there and then. I did consider the library but it was pretty private stuff (medical records) and I didn't want anyone else to even glance at it.

I print a lot - both B&W and colour - because I like to write when we are away in the van and find I just can't proof read on the screen. I need to be able to print off and mark / highlight errors and where the language isn't quite right. Just old fashioned I think. Direct wifi printing from laptop to printer is still an issue sometimes (you can't have both internet printing and direct printing enabled at the same time) and I forget to switch off and back on.

I've had thermal printers in the past but found the output fades over time and if it gets a bit warm ........ Anyway I am glad I did persevere with the HP but when it conks out I now have alternatives to consider. HP don't have the best reputation whenit comes to instructions .... possibly translated into English but not checked by someone like me (idiot operator) to correct them.

We definitely need one, but with little intermittent use in a MH then as noted in a few comments above the ink dries out if using an inkjet - get a cheap little laser printer (the Brother HL1200 is perfect), about the same price as inkjets but just being basically carbon powder the toner never dries out

Also forgot to mention the HL1200 works fine wirelessly (you might have to set you phone up as a router via "Mobile Hotspot" but thats easy enough) so you don't have a problem having to connect wires every time you want to print

As per ‘daveclare’ - we bought a Canon TR150 Excellent with the same caveat.

We are planning a 9 month trip starting in Jan 2022 and I had thought a portable printer would be useful.

Having looked I can find nothing that is reasonable quality under £200. I will be saving anything that needs printing to a pen-drive and using retail outlets or libraries or Tourist Information centres. The cost, space, and general unreliability of printers just doesn't stack up for me.

Hi Skez, The brother HL1210, a great little laser printer (I have been running some for years and ideal for a M/H) is as little £95 new and can be found second-hand on Ebay for much less, so much less than the £200 you mention
