Hi guys hope everyone is safe and well
Got my thrust bearing making a bit of a rattle.Has anyone replaced a clutch on a 2001 fiat ducato 2.8 jtd and what is the cost likely to be around STAY SAFE(y)(y)(y)

Hi Newmoon, I hope you are sitting down 🙂 I didn't get it done as a change of m'home was in the offing but due to the clutch only biting at the end of the pedal travel due to the self adjustment of the clutch I had a couple of quotes, both came out as near as dammit to a grand. As I knew both garage owners well I queried the price both gave same answer, difficult job and would only fit genuine parts.
Good luck ☺️

Have a word with Gloucester road gearboxes in Bristol. They specialise in Peugeot/Fiat gearboxes and clutches. I had my gearbox sorted there recently. They do 4 or 5 a week.

I should also say that I was told the thrust bearings are prone to noise on these vehicles as the clutch is unusual and the bearing doesn't push against the clutch in the usual way. It's not necessarily a fault

Blue print 3 piece clutch £122
Borg & Beck 3 piece clutch £144
Ebay
Not sure I would fit Blue Print, B and B less than £100 <Broken link removed>

About £650 including a new clutch thrust bearing and fitting.

When I was looking for clutches recently I was surprised by the amount of what to me were makes I had never heard of & with eye watering prices. Only to find that many were OEM suppliers to most companies.
I looked at LUk & Valeo but having used Blue print before on my 4x4 Ralliart Delica & checking on the mitsi & subaru forums & finding no complaints when used on 4 & 500uprated engines I went with it.
The "motorcraft" original that I took out was an Luk rebadged.
Blue print are part of Bilsten now so I am happy with the make

Quote here to change the clutch in my transit 2,2 fwd was 650€
Changed a mates alfa 156 a couple of years back as the garage price was 1000€ without a dmf. Mind you if I was asked to do another I'd tell them to scrap it or pay the garage.

I bought an LUK clutch as being the best. When my mechanic opened the box it was stamped Valeo .:Eeek:

Wow

Part of the problem is FWD

Conventional RWD is a doddle to do
I remember changing a clutch in my fwd Astra, undo 4 screws to remove an inspection plate, fit three little clamps (included in the clutch kit) to compress the clutch, pull out a small spindle and catch the clutch as it drops through the inspection hole, rinse and repeat for the install !

Wow, never knew some were so easy.

Having been brought up on RWD I still favour working on them 😊

I was quoted 1700€ in a French Fiat dealers
Fiat garage I wa recovered to in Poitiers was 108€ per hour labour charge+ vat

I always wondered why they stopped doing them ?

There not anymore. This was old Astra‘s in the past. Soon learnt that they weren’t making money from that.

That did cross my mind, why would they make it easy.

Along with fitting light weight clutches to commercial vehicles 🙄

I had mine done at my local garage, they do my servicing and are very reasonable. But I got them to do the clutch, as the peddle was sticking down and not returning. The parts came to £600 and all in was £1500 for 2.3 130bhp Fiat. I've no idea what the price should have been but they did say it was a pig to do as had to do it from underneath, being an A class Hymer.

What ever it cost the van is running much better than it did before, goes a dream now, gear changes are very smooth and seams to pull much better too, so I'm very pleased with the outcome.
