Getting there owner since 2021
Morning everyone.
Has anyone ever had any dealings with Preston? I'm getting a little concerned over a deposit I've put down on a motorhome. Their reviews look decent on Google but I'd prefer to hear first hand.

Bought a motorhome off them in 2017 some warranty work needed doing they had the van for five days we stayed a a hotel and hired car to travel about while they were supposedly were doing the work all they did was screw two vent covers back there excuse was that they were unable to complete any of the other jobs was because they needed to book the van into a body shop and had not done it I would not buy anything off them again

Thanks for that. That doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

What is it that's concerning you? Delivery delays? Their financial stability? Lack of communication?....................
It might help to know why you are anxious.

Lack of communication. I was promised a video after making the deposit and another 3 times since with nothing being sent. I'm now concerned that there's
something he's trying to hide.

When I bought mine i should have rejected it at the handover so many faults on a new van but you live and learn

How long ago did you pay the deposit?
Maybe they rely on the video being made by a third party who is locked down? (But they could at least say so).
In spite of the travel restriction I'd be inclined to pay them a visit.
Is it a refundable deposit?

There's a red splash banner on their website which says they're closed until Apl 12th but still handling enquiries by phone or email..

Only rated 1.9 out of 5 in these awful reviews. Poor communication is a strong feature:

Thanks Spriddler. Yes the deposit is refundable based on viewing, which we obviously can't do until next month. I paid the deposit a full month ago and was told that he was personally making a video for us, do no third party involved. He has not contacted us once, I have contacted him on several occasions and been made promises that have been broken every time.

You might get a response if you request a refund? Its not exactly good form for the future when theres a lack of communication, requesting deposit back might rattle his chains , best

I sent him a text rather than email this morning asking if there was an issue with the van and us that why he's not sent a video. He's just phoned to say he couldn't email it for some reason and he's going to make another video now (because he deleted the last one?) Then WhatsApp me it today.
My breath is not being held!

This actually does sound believable - if uncompressed a video file could be huge and unlikely to be within his email provider's limits.
A work around is to upload it to YouTube & send you a link.

Doesn't excuse the poor communication though.

I don't believe him in the slightest. If I had a customer waiting and couldn't get a video to send, I would be contacting you immediately, not having to chase them and be told I'm re-shooting today. Bet it wasn't on his radar for today, but is now as you have called.

The trouble is, how many excuses will be made in the coming months and how much misery will be attached.

Spending £10's of £1000's on a new motorhome should surely be a joyous occasion, not fraught with worry as is the case and how long will this worry continue.

I'm pretty sure other dealers would be begging to get your business and treat you as should be expected.

Grab your deposit and walk away. Even if this shakes him every up, I'm guessing you'll have the same problems down route and will add to the poor reviews to date.

After all, that's why we read the reviews.

Good luck with it all.

We are also waiting for delivery of motor home from Preston Motor Homes , should have been ready for collection yesterday (1st March) but obviously delayed till next month.

This is the 2nd new motor home we have had off them and we have had 2 new caravans from them and I have to say they have been great with all dealings over the years not only buying but also after sales service.

I guess we all have different ideas of how we have been looked after from company's, more so over the last 12 months which has stretched all of our resolve.

My only suggestion is to give them a little bit of patients and try and speak to them i'm sure they will come through for you

I completely agree with PP Bear's reasoning. If the buying process is causing you stress from the outset, then it is a clear indication that it will only get worse. My advice would be to follow your gut instinct and to walk away before you reach the point of no return. There is a lot to be said for sleeping well at night!

Well true to his word (eventually) he's sent a video by WhatsApp. I totally get that he probably couldn't send it by email due to size of file but it was more the communication aspect that concerned me. The van does look good and It's what we want so I'll stick with it. I did get across to him about my concerns and I think he's taken it on board. Hopefully a slight shake has done the business.
