In this day & age with all the negative stuff written about DVLA, i thought i should give them praise where deserved. In January i was 70, & thinking i no longer required my C1 Entitlement, i let it lapse & just kept my normal licence. After a holiday driving around Greece & Turkey, i decided i needed a larger motorhome, something with more space. So when i returned i set about trying to get my C1 entitlement returned. Sent off for forms D2 & D4 from Dvla, arrived in 4 days. Booked in with D4 Drivers (£55.00) Forms filled out (eye glasses for driving Req) sent of, forgot to send sign for (duh) 3 weeks later not heard anything so phoned, less than 10 mins i was through!!!! Of course wrong dept so put through to correct one. Yes we have received your application, please send a letter to this address & dept, this was done, 5 days later & praise be my licence was back & C1 reinstated. So all in all just over 4 weeks, i think that is very good, so i'm happy.;);)
Just as an aside DVLA call "grandfather rights" "implied Rights" Prob does'nt make any difference but if you have to write to them it may.

Nice One!

My wife is in the same situation. She turned 70 in the height of the pandemic and couldn't get a medical.

May I ask if you simply sent completed forms D2 & D4 or did you include a covering letter explaining the situation?

Am I right in assuming you sent in your non-C1 licence with your application?

Thanks

Hi namwaldog, no covering letter, i just sent the forms, & yes i did send in my licence, i took a chance, some will say dont.

I posted my application with completed D2 and D4 forms on 19th July, received by DVLA on 21st July.

On Friday of last week 5th August, I rang DVLA at approx 6:30 pm to ask for confirmation that they had my application so I could safely drive under Section 88 provisions. After listening to the lengthy menu options on the phone, it took all of three minutes to be connected to a human being.

The very affable man I spoke to, said he wouldn't be able to issue a confirmation. When I asked "why not ?" , he said "because we've sent your new licence out this morning" !

I received the new licence yesterday morning, 8th August, renewed for three years from the expiry date of my old one.

I call that pretty good service.

Just got my updated V5 back from DVLA. Have up plated the van.

Less than 2 weeks from sending everything off the DVLA.

So we’ll done to them.

Whole prices including the SV Tech stuff is a little over 3 and a half weeks.

Can’t complain at that
🥳🥳👍👍
