Still dropping clangers and making it up as I go along
Well, here we go time to cancel to DD as nothing is happening. I have the urge to do this often but every time I think OK lets call it a day and cancel it guess what I have a little win. Never more than £20 but today I am going through the motions to cancel the payment open my bank account and what's looking at me a you guessed it a £10 credit from the Postcode lottery
So do I keep living in hope or use the money to pay the mobile phone bill instead..................

I'm not a big lottery player but do the postcode lottery and have won enough to keep it interesting so will stay in for now - oh, and the good causes etc :-)

Just look at those "good causes" you are supporting, like Shamima Begum's legal fight against the government

Consider what % of tax, advertising, profit, distribution to different charities is taken from each £10.

Don't gamble..... well apart from the stock market.

How do you win small amounts, surely it's your post code or it isn't,

I don't really know, but think it may be that if the first part is yours then you win a smaller amount (?).

I was confused too as my local area won a very large amount and I thought everyone would just cancel their dd. However, they've all continued winning smaller amounts!

each postcode can have an average of 15 properties having the same set of letters and numbers although in reality depending on area it can range between 1 and 100..

The Lottery is the most popular tax ever levied!

From the Gambling Commision figures.
The average breakdown for every £1 of ticket sales in 2018/19 was:
  • 56p paid to winners in prizes
  • 22p given to good causes
  • 12p to the government in lottery duty
  • 4p paid to National Lottery retailers on tickets sold
  • 6p retained by the operator to meet costs and returns to shareholders.
