Hi,
We are currently planning our trip from Spain (Seville) in May (5 weeks overall) into Portugal and therefore looking for ideas and info.
We will be avoiding the Algarve and heading to Lisbon from Seville then up to Oporto and eventually into Spain.
Has anyone been into the da Peneda-Geres national park; what were the roads like - we drive a 6m van.
We would also like to stay on the coast between Lisbon and Oporto and would appreciate any advice as to campsites, preferably with ease of public transport.
We take the bikes but wonder what the roads are like, ie steepness.

Why miss out the Algarve completely (have you been?) and the Alantejo region, the Algarve is not all like Vilamoura.

Just over the border on the A49 from Seville is Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo Antonio, there are aires in both places.

A very pleasant drive along the banks of the Guadiana takes you to Alcoutim (aire en route), Mertola, Serpa (Municipal site, cheap), Beja( Orbitur site, not so cheap) or get to Serpa from Sevllle via the Sierra Aracena.

The Alentejo coast south of Sines is spectacular in places, especially south of Vila Nova de Milfontes (Camping Milfontes right in the town, €9 night with CCI discount and without electric)

North of Sines there is a site at Lagoa de St. Andre which has been recommended to me but I have never been.

Another site recommended to us a few years ago was at Alcacer do Sal

A lot of the coastal sites North of Lisbon are operated by Orbitur and are not the best.

We have stopped on the Orbitur site at Caldas de Rainha(Foz de Arelho), not brilliant but convenient for a visit to Obidos.

Orbitur site at Rio Alto is convenient for the metro into Porto from Povoa de Varzim but we did have the car and caravan at the time so not so sure about parking a M/home.

Do you have the campercontacts link or app, search for sites is also useful both for both sites and aires or tolerated parking places but some of those can be out of date.

That's very useful Matamoros.
Missing out the Algarve because we can't do everything. Granada and Seville are our main objectives and when we do the Algarve will probably do a villa type holiday.
I'll get hold of the campercontacts app.
Cheers

Not "At the coast" but just inland is the beautiful university town of Coimbra. Cracking free Aire, on the river (Big River) with a cafe, a WC emptying facs and water. Recommended.

Peniche and Nazare are both lovely, interesting places N of Lisbon with free parking. For Porto we stopped at a free aire (with free electric and toilets) in Coronado and took the train. Another free aire right on the beach is at Darque on the S side of the river from Viana da Castello with an easy, flat cycle path into town. Can highly reccommend Soajo in the P. G. Nat. Park. Lots of history, walks and views with free parking by the espigueiros. Water, empty out and wc. Going N to Galicia from here is wonderful country past spectacular monastery but the roads are very steep. We are 7m m/h plus 2m trailer and managed no bother. Also, try park4night.com really good stop-offs in here. Cheers.

Our second day in Portugal and just loving it, making our way south to a rally at Touriscampo. Last night we stayed at Camping Alentejo near Evoramonte, new amenities block, short drive from motorway, free wifi on all pitches (which are a generous size) 12 euro pupn including 10 amp ehu. Tonight we are at Camping Costa do Vizir at Porto Covo. Touring site completely revamped/renewed new huge toilet shower block, 3 elsan points, 16amp ehu everything is brand new this year 15.6 Euro pupn, free wifi in reception area well impressed. Short walk into the pretty little town or the lovely coast and beaches. Recommended, and the weather is lovely and warm 20 deg C this afternoon and still 11 as I write at 21.00hrs.
