Anyone using these? Never heard of them before but their website says no restriction using all your data in the EU. so may be of interest to some. 30 day contact, 30gb for £18 or 100 GB for £25. Thinking I might give them a go?

Apparently using the EE Network which should provide good coverage in the uk

These guys just advertised in our newsletter. Anyone used them yet?

Yes we used them for our trip in October, I’ve posted it on a few threads. We went for the 100gb one month contract, we used it all over France and watched 3 live football games and Netflix most nights without any issues.

I had to contact their customer service to ask a few questions and they were superb and very helpful, they told me to uncheck the box that says save payment details to prevent the contract rolling on. Unfortunately while I was looking through their deals my fat fingers clicked on a deal for the second month, I only noticed once they’d taken payment, once I called money was back in my account within 24hours with an apology.
I told them I was a member on here and it might be good if they contacted Jim to arrange a deal for members.

They are a Yorkshire company and use EE

Did you use the 100gb or where you restricted to the normal 25gb when out the UK?

I’ve a Popit SIM delivered and it’s about to go into the mobile tomorrow. I’m moving from Sky who charged the wife and I £72 for three weeks roaming in Turkey last month.

We are in France & Spain for four months from late Dec. I corresponded with the Popit CTO to confirm a few details which others may find interesting.
  • They are an MVNO for EE
  • You can roam (EU) for upto six months at a time and use ALL your allowance
  • They have plans up to 100Gb
  • It’s a month at a time contract
  • There is no traffic shaping or throttle, you get full download/upload speed that your geography allows
  • The SIM will work in a MiFi
You should note, the website and ordering is a little clunky and not it’s not very well written, architected or intuitive.

Together with the excellent Tiekom service that I used last winter, this ‘should’ sort my roaming data and mobile services fully for this year. 👍🏻

See my post below yours, there is no fair usage 25Gb applied. You get your full allowance when roaming, whatever tariff you are on!

Yep me too, only had a sim for just over a month so far but that includes a week in Spain with no problems at all including using my phone as a hotspot for my wife's as she used up all her smarty 12gb in the first few days. I also to get 5g in lots more places than my smarty sim

I think we used about 80gb in two weeks, as I said we watched live football a few times so that would use most of the data and we watched Netflix most nights or listened to radio via the phone, we also used it for our day to day data and surfing for two phones as we used the personal hotspot. There is no restrictions you can use your full data in all the EU countries and others listed.

Wow... one to look at. Vodaphone have just billed me an extra £60 for roaming charges

If only I’d gone with them instead of Lyca! Having loads of trouble with them - now in France with no data on my phone! Rubbish customer service too! Hindsight is a wonderful thing! 😏

Popit charge £6 per day for Turkey so watch out if you go there again. We’re going there next year so are trying to find the cheapest way of getting coverage without buying a local Sim. Also going to Northern Cyprus on the same trip.
Plenty of time to research though.

Turkey doesn’t seem to be included on basic U.K. plans even if EU roaming is included which isn’t really surprising as it’s not in the EU!

We had several years sailing in the Eastern Med, mostly based in Marmaris, Turkey and had one winter berthed at a Marina in Northern Cyprus for 6 months.

In Turkey we found the best way of getting data was to use a local Turkcell SIM but, unless things have changed, if you decide to do this make sure that you buy the SIM from a Turkcell Shop as it needs to be registered to you (we were told for security reasons) and not from a third party Cellphone Store (which are numerous and easily identified as they also sell other network provider SIMs, e g Vodafone Turkey) as they are not able to register you and after a few days you will be cut off. (Don’t ask how I know!)

Also, once again unless things have changed, you will find that no Service Provider is able to offer roaming in N Cyprus. This is because under international regulations the TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) is not recognised. Although you can buy a Turkcell SIM in the TRNC it will not work in Turkey and the Turkish Turkcell SIM will not work in the TRNC.

We did enjoy our time in both Turkey and the TRNC and I am sure you will also. Good luck however you decide to meet your telecom needs.

Turkcell SIM from a Turkcell shop is still the best value of the 3 local providers according to a Travel blogger I follow.
Interestingly Smarty “out of plan” add on plus free Wi-Fi spots may end up being our best bet for Northern Cyprus. We don’t do streaming and it will just be for emergencies. They have a specific page for Northern Cyprus whereas most companies don’t. My 3 contract runs out a couple of months before our trip so could be a good time to change.

Thanks.

any problems using a fire stick with this sim... or do you need a VPN
That probably depends on which apps you want to use.

Excuses for my ignorance in advance but, if I get one of these popit sims for EU roaming, does this mean that I won't be able to use my phone number?

I'm ok with emails etc cause you can log into your account, but my phone number is crucial for customer contact?

We used our firestick for Netflix, Prime, Iplayer and live football with no issues

  • Thanks

You will either need to transfer number, use a dual sim phone or a spare phone or mifi.

If you put it in your phone yes, this is what we did and just told anyone to phone me as it was in Lorraines phone, she did still get her whatsapp messages but couldn't access twitter or messenger for some reason. If you put the sim in a Ipad or WiFi router you can buy from most phone shops

My phone e is a dual sim so it's just a case of popping it in and away we go?

You don’t need to buy this until you are ready to head off Brian. Order it a week or so before you need it, then activate a few days before you travel, use it a bit so EE recognise you as UK subscriber, then head off across to Europe and use whilst in EU.

HTH’s?

You need to go into network settings on your phone and add an apn for the network popit use, EE I believe
