Ann says she's seen on sky news there's going to be over 500 temporary pop up campsites on racecourses, farms and by land owners to meet "huge demands"

Just seeing if we can rewind it now 🤔

No, can't find anything Googling either, she says it was the tourist board maybe.
She'll have to watch the news for an hour until it comes round again 😆

There has been a bit on our local news about "pop-up campsites" in the Lake District.....

According to this website, only for Tents!.....

They will be wanting to charge over £30 a night just for a field. Still plenty of lay-bys and out of the way places to stop over for the night then get to main centres very first thing in the morning, then back yo bed.

There's one opening in our village which is causing upset with locals as the local pub/shop etc will be swamped - allegedly 100 pitches, no electric, time slots for showers in a portacabin, portacabin loos, no defined pitches ('freedom to pitch where you want') and for a tent with two kids in main season = £45 per night. It's on land owned by the local manor house and estate but run by someone else. Expect even with all the drawbacks expect it'll be full. Should be fun as some locals (not me!) are going to park their cars in a way to disrupt access as it's down narrow lanes.

  • Whitby Showground, North Yorks, offers a non-electric pitch at £65 per night – including entry to Whitby War Weekend in late August.

you could always get a share of the dosh and set one up in your garden...:imoutahere::imoutahere::whistle2::doh:
Well...we've got nearly two acres so it has gone through our mind... That way we'd get ourselves mentioned at the Parish Council Grump Meetings where some people here do get quite het up...:madder: over trivia.

Surely that’s “tentism“ ?

I don't see too many extra ones as yet. Just the press maybe picking up on what normally happens

It said somewhere they are now allowed to open for the full school holidays so it's now worthwhile doing. So July maybe 👌

One of the big clubs is opening 2 - 1 in the New Forest, not cheap though so I’m afraid it wont be getting my custom.

I looked at a few advertised at pitchup.com and they are mostly full price. All we need is a field to park in for £10.

Plenty of CL type campsites around the UK that would love to welcome you. (y)
I always think they'll be full as they're only allowed to have 5 pitches 🤔

Not the case, most people seem to prefer the larger sites with all the facilities, you will find most CL sites have plenty of availability. Are you all listening, please book in at a few smaller sites this year and support them or we will only be left with the sites that drain your bank balance.

Totally agree to a point but because of the pricing system, it's often cheaper for us singletons to stay on the larger club sites!

If you want to arrange a singles weekend here at Woodside Field Janine I can offer a better rate but it is no good to me me if only one van shows up. Have you seen how big the field is here, the mower needs to eat and drink as well.

I totally understand! I do have to watch my pennies though. Quite often, I can stay at C&CC sites for less that £10 a night.

Three bookings so far this year - all CLs. Always our first choices. Might go to CMC site at Ashwell later in year. No CL near enough. I think that as soon as you move away from popular coast or high tourist areas there are CL spaces. Quite happy to leave big sites to others. Even the pop up sites by the two big clubs look as though they are large - not worth their while otherwise I suppose.

We will be using CLs mixed with a bit of park up this Summer. We will be out and about in the main Monday to Fridays as the Weekends are likely to be very busy. Come the main 6 week holiday I just can't be bothered to travel in England as its a nightmare. After the July 2020, end of lockdown, we headed up to to Scotland for a few weeks but again just do not want the crowds. Will head to Malvern show to use a weekend up and have the Twinwood festival the following weekend so all sorted. By September hope to be heading for mainland Europe for the Winter. My how time flies.
We are very lucky that we now are temporary living very close to the coast and have access to some great locations for the day close to us.

So the pop up sites will be ideal for the two week holidays for families and wish them all the best with the weather and having fun but not for us.

Don't think pop up sites will help me as unlikely to have facilities and EHU.

Just joined both clubs specifically to access the CL type sites this year, given the big increase in folk new to MHing who're going to be booking sites. I'll see at the end of the year based on my actual usage whether I think it's worth renewing my memberships or reverting back to my previous habits of using Britstops and other 'off site' locations.
