As anyone got any experience with this Head Unit please?

In less than two years I’ve had 4 failed Head Units. Two Xzent, one Zenec and the latest a Alpine, which is a lovely unit but won’t update or fit easily with my steering wheel controls.

I’ve been offered the above Pioneer as a replacement, and it is a Motorhome specific Unit.

I know there is a load of recommendations for various units on here, but the Pioneer is the one I’m being offered and my easiest option.

I've had a Pioneer unit for some time now. It isn't the one you mention but if the firmware is anything like the one I have it is the simplest operating system I've ever come across - especially the DAB tuning. I love it.

That’s what I like to hear…….simple….like me.🤷‍♂️ (y)

Hi , I have that model in our motorhome. Seems pretty good so far , only had the van two weeks.
DAB is good , Android Auto works well although still getting to grips with it.
Not particularly impressed with the satnav side of it - traffic updates are via TMC and it doesn't seem to have speed camera warnings( I know stick to the speed limits). Some of the routing is a bit strange even though I've set it up with the van dimensions. Have reverted back to my Tomtom Camper.
Also the near side cab speakers don't work - something for the dealer to sort out.

Not cheap to update. Has its quirks. Overall like ours.

My motorcycle Sat Nav has it’s moments as well. 🤷‍♂️

After 2 years of trying , I just want one that works.(y)

Have had the mentioned unit now for about 2 months in a Pilote - not by choice but rather part of the Evidence package, but must say it's a well made, feature-rich unit with a great screen, steering wheel integration, wireless carplay, ours has door speakers plus treble speakers on the dash as well as rear speakers above the bed giving sufficient sound both when in the car as well as when we're outside and not too close to other so that we can crank up the volume a bit. Sticking to the original Pioneer navi app, haven't felt the need to switch to something else like Waze even though we have been instructed to take some odd detours - still figuring out best settings (currently on Easy which seem OK). All in all a great bit if kit and we're happy Pilote picked a quality item such as this.

Yes Pilote have finally started fitting decent radios to some models . Just sold a 2020 Pilote P650C fitted with the awful IDMedia Dab radio.
2 years of ownership and the radio was still rubbish when we sold it

Update…….still looking for a unit. 🤷‍♂️

The dealer took out the Alpine Unit as it wouldn’t connect to the steering controls or update.

They couldn’t get the Pioneer to connect to the steering controls either, and the unit doesn’t fit into the dashboard tidily, on our 2020 Ducato. The unit sticks out at the top by about 10mm, exposing the units casing. Looked awful.

I’ve taken a refund, but now have a gapping hole in the dashboard.🤦‍♂️

Anyone recommend a Specialist Audio Company in the Weston-super-Mare area please?

Update to my update……..

I found a specialist company in Bristol……and we are now both happy Teddies. Only had it fitted today but all the signs are looking very positive.

Expensive? Yes…..very. But after two years and 5 failed units…..I really don’t care.

Big?….Bloody right. I don’t need my glasses now to read it.;)

Had the option for that one on the Carthago we have just ordered, seemed a no brainer for the price they were offering it for.

Go on then Lenny…..tell me how much…..make me cry, then I’ll tell you how much I paid. 🤦‍♂️

How about this though…..

The company who fitted it gave me all the stuff in the photo…..unnecessary wiring with stuff in there they had no idea what it was in there for. 🤷‍♂️

They also connected the DAB Ariel fitted by Fiat……it works absolutely perfectly…..but another had been fitted for whatever reason.🤷‍♂️

The Fiat fitted single USB on the dash has been changed to a double, and the updates are done via that, instead of a single one dangling below the dash. They also changed the dash rocker switch.

I got a 9" Sony with Android Auto for £440. Did have to fit it myself though.

Who was the company you used in Bristol please ?

Guy by the name of Simon I dealt with. Very knowledgeable and very helpful. 👍

GPS aerial, splitter for radio aerial are 2 I recognise.

We've got the Pioneer AVIC EV01 DT2 in our Bailey Autograph (Pug Boxer), only problem is the radio aerial - in the n/s door mirror with armour cover - so no usable signal, will fit a decent roof aerial before next season.

Make sure you have the latest maps, you only have a short window to get a free update, after that it gets expensive to update the maps.

Ours came with 3 years of map updates, so it might depend on what model you have - or if Pioneer apply different conditions for different markets (which I doubt).

Our unit is plugged into the original van DAB, and we have Mirrorguards on, Works perfectly. I checked several areas where other DAB units have dropped out, no problem at all.

The Specialist Audio company said, fitted correctly the the excess wiring wasn’t needed……they’re the experts, whatever they put in behind the unit is work absolutely fine.

The only place we’ve lost the signal is Cheddar Gorge…..but that wasn’t a surprise.👍

Did the updates straightaway, but the Unit came with a 3 year warranty and 3 year free Map Updates.

As I said before, after so many failed units, this one was expensive but it actually does work.😁

The Pioneer AVIC EV01 DT2 is a common default unit in Ducato motorhomes. Seems to be priced around £999 to £1200. Not sure its worth that???

After 5 failed units in 2 years, yes it’s worth it to us. The large screen means I can read it without my glasses on. 😁👍

Lenny got it for under £800 as an option on his new van. It‘s an option on the new Series 8 Ducato.

We’ve just taken delivery of a Carthago with theAVIC-Z1000DAB option. Has anyone managed to update the nav maps? Seems I have 45 days to do it for free. The Naviextras Toolbox doesn’t connect when I plug the usb memory stick in after it’s been initialised by the media unit. Tried an 8 and 32 GB stick. Very frustrating!

Silly question, presumably the USB stick was formatted in a compatible format (FAT32?) for the toolbox?
