I was thinking whether we are allowed to carry in the motorhome a gallon of diesel. Just in case one breakdown. Thanks.

Thank you. I was thinking of buying a strong and solid container.I would say as long as in an appropriate container then yes...diesel if infinately safer and less volatile than petrol.
One gallon plastic fuel cans readily available... green for petrol and black for diesel.Thank you. I was thinking of buying a strong and solid container.
Read through your post and yes it says petrol may be carried in a can....no mention of diesel being carried in a can.....AA says "yes"..

Yes indeed.... much easier to keep an eye on fuel gauge. My philosophy is refuel before it gets to a 1/4 tank.Remember the days when if you ran out of diesel you had to bleed the whole fuel system?
Mine tooYes indeed.... much easier to keep an eye on fuel gauge. My philosophy is refuel before it gets to a 1/4 tank.
Unless of coarse you are really tight fisted and drive past a dearer fuel stop HOPEING you can get to a cheaper one before you run out.
Genuine question. What’s wrong with stopping for some fuel?I carry 2 x 20L metal jerry cans. one means with a full tank that I can run right through France without filling & the other spare.
However, don't try and carry one on the ferry. A while back while waiting to board at Newhaven they had a blitz on these, there was a large bay filling fast with peoples fuel containers. I used to carry one but luckily didn't on that occassion.
Whilst I was at training school one of the sub officers ran a fire engine out of diesel. This is just about a sacking offence. I told him I could bleed it through without him having to get the mechanics out. I didn’t do one picket duty for the rest of my recruits course.Remember the days when if you ran out of diesel you had to bleed the whole fuel system?
Remember the days they syphoned EVERY motorbike tank before boarding the ferry.... Early/mid 70s.Like going to I o M for the races.
They didn’t find my two cans buried underneath everything
