Just watching the BBC news, a guy just bought a personal number plate for nearly £600,000 at auction, reckoned he would of paid a million for it, what would you pay for one or have paid, just being nosey, notice there popular for MH owners and more so with tuggers.

Not my sort of thing, so I wouldn't pay for one.

Except perhaps for my first car a mini clubman - LLA 88K

Crap car but I liked the plate:D

Ours came on the MoHo, but quite liked it so kept it.

The real irony with cherished plates is 99% of the people who see it do not know me, my name, my profession or hobbies ( other than Moho ) so why spend a fortune on a relevant one?

Keep them guessing

Do these plates make the vehicle go faster or perhaps better MPG. I never could get my head round why anyone would want one. Have just sold this van complete with number plate, pity the plates have to come back to the original owner.

I have a plate on retention that will go on my mh , I paid £400 for it including £80 transfer fee .
The amount people are prepared to pay will depend on how much money they have , just like motorhomes , cars , houses , holidays etc .

I once bought L7 ??? (my initials) for about £300 to put on the Westfield kit car I built .... let it go with the car.
I have had ??? XAA (eX Alcoholics Anon) for about ten years ... since falling off the waggon;)
Can't remember exactly how much I paid , but probably too much.

We can have any 8 leters or didgets as long has no one else has it for €1000
As Dave(Snowbird) said in Belgium plates stay with the owner or there children .
So here you could have FUNSTER on your motorhome for €1000
Now thats a thought.

Mind you probably cheaper to get a personal plate than buying another van, harder to age if it is a personal plated.

When I bought my TT it came with plate X5ATT.

It was naff so flogged it to one of them agencies for £750 and they paid for me to choose my own from DVLA..

So I picked CW05YOZ

CW are my initials and Yoz short for Yorick. So it's very personal but doesn't look naff.

It'd be quite nice to have MX5 and AUD1 on the cars, but I wouldn't pay for it. If I had lots of unnecessary dosh and had a spending mentality I might though.
On the van I could have M0H0. I expect @old-mo would have OLD M0H0

The only one I would consider would be my initials and number 1 but it would be mega bucks and I wouldn't waste my money. I get really cross looking at number plates that people have manipulated to spell something that doesn't quite work, I think it looks really naff.

But it's all personal and if we were all the same the world would be boring.

I bought a 1961 Landrover circa 1974 - it had the registration MOO 513. Obviously folk assumed I was a dairy farmer and we received many comments about it. As far as I know, it was the original number allocated to the vehicle when it was new.

Anyway, just looked up the registration on the DVLA website (https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dvla ), and it appears the number is still in use on a much newer Landrover - a 2006 model!

We've got one on the MH as much to de age it as anything. Only cost £157.

Keep looking for something to put on my car but can't find anything I like.

I used to see PEN15 quite regularly - not sure what the owner was aiming to achieve.

I have my initials and a single digit number, it's on retention and only had it on one car years ago. Paid a good bit for it long time ago, but now it's worth substancial money, much better than any other investment could ever achieve....so viewing it as an investment !

The French don't get at all and I guess that us because the plates in france are not age related . When we went to reregister our cars and motorhome we got the next number on the list so the car or whatever before or after us could have been brand new or 29 years old.
You can guess a bit the age of a vehicle by its plate but only to know it was registered before say the year they changed the plating system ie pre 2010 . But not the exact age . It is just a way if the motor trade in UK to make more money by appealing to vanity by making the plates relevant to a year.

No fussed about them myself, I get the de aging thing, but I put people into two categories. 1) those who don't care or notice things so a plate is wasted 2) those that do, most of those could roughly age a vehicle if plates were removed.

I do wonder who has KN 08 EAD though :D

The DVLA usually block obviously offensive ones from being issued but the odd one slips through occasionally

not long enough
My family has had some form of private plate as long as I can recall

My father had a scouting name KES and way back in the 60's a friend had a car with KES 924 on it, he simply bought the car from him when he was ready to sell and then kept it

When he died 20 years ago I had just decided to start my own business, not decided on a name and when Mum said did I want Dads plate I jumped at it and called my business Kestrel Environmental Services, a double play on KES. had plate on my business car, then bought a van and got H20 KES from DVLA for less than £200 then, that set a theme and we now have 7 company vehicles all with *20 KES (E,F,H,P,R,W and Y) It works for me

Being used to the idea, my family all have their names Bev Nat and Jen, couldn't do David but have DG 369 on our MH

The names are nice to have and a real investment, BEV 55S cost £250 (25 years ago) and we have been offered £3K, DG 369 cost £4K been offered £10K

When I sell business and stop driving it will be a nice little extra to spend on something else almost like another lump sum :)
