There are often people asking for places to stop.

I am not thinking so much about asking for a place near a specific point/venue or even repair shop.

I am thinking more about the request of 'A stop from Torquay-Leeds.'

Are these people going to come on a forum every time they venture out?

I can understand a 'Newbie' who asks for a method of finding stops and then gets directed to various sources to do their own research.

But I do not understand how those that ask for one stop will get on over their next MHoming years if they cannot do their own research.

Am I missing something?

Geoff

I did just what you are lambasting members for today Geoff. 👍🏻

Was interested to know if anyone had any ideas for a site between two rallies this year. Seemed a reasonable request to me, but clearly not aligned to what you think a MH forum should be used for. 🤷‍♂️

I’m pretty well versed at searching for my own sites, but personal recommendations are also very useful too! 🤪

Our UK drive is full at the moment. But Quite happy to allow someone to stay if and when they can fit.

EHU/Water and Waste on the drive

Javea is available at the Moment until 18th April. Then 18th September.

EHU/Water But no Waste unless Bio (Septic tank so no Elsan/Blue Chemicals)

Some people need help more than others and some are just too lazy to look for their selves. Others are happy to reply and offer assistance when they can, it what make for a good ethos on a forum.

Unfortunately some who do the asking don’t get back to their thread and thank those who have freely given their time and knowledge, which is a shame, and if it has taken some considerable time and effort to help it leaves a “Why should I bother in the future” taste in the mouth.

I would rather help than not though, especially when I have the time, I will be asking again soon and hope to get the same courtesy, and have 😊

Recommendations from experienced funsters are always a plus.
And maybe a lot do their own research and asking here is part of it

I always rememebr being told. there is no such thing as a stupid question

I think your description of 'lambasting' is a bit harsh.

I was trying to point out that they need to be encouraged to be independent.

In your own example if you had already done your own research then you could have put up say 3 sites and asked opinions on those, but that is a different way of approaching the topic than just asking for a site.

So are we - even though in Poland we have had 4 stayers.

Trev, just don't tell them about the aircraft approach to 24R - I won't. :giggle: :giggle:

Nothing is better than someone who gets it seeing and experiencing a venue.

Also helps with those embarrassing moments when you accidentally end up at the local dogging spot because you have no local knowledge.

There is a canal tunnel near us, one side is delightful but stay in the other side and you won’t have anything left by morning. You would never know unless told by someone familiar with the area.

What gets me is people who have, been all over the world on planes, but havnt a clue where they have actually been, just fly to somewhere on package tours, could be anywhere but no idea where somewhere is in UK.
Maybe flew thousands of miles, but don't know where somewhere is ,ten mile down the road.

We were in our motorhome in the South of France, staying on a campsite at St. Pons de Mures (Grimaud). Some wanted to go Parasailing in Frejus.

I looked up an Aire near the Capataniere/Base Naval a good walk from the port area. Arrived to park up and the local Refuse collectors arrived saying I could not park there as they "may" need to come back to empty the glass bins. I refused to move, pointing to the signs for the Aire. The police were called and a raucous of a row ensued. The police and the refuse collectors were anti motorhome, or rather anti brit motorhome and insisted I should move. Again, I pointed out the marked spots for motorhomes, the guide book and the adjacent sign stating we could park. The police were pretty horrible and despite my basic and polite French, they insisted I would be towed.

An onlooking elderly resident witnessed this from her Garden, came out and gave the Police and The refuse workers a good bollocking. Pointing out the parked French registered motorhomes and the signage. Stating how they were not promoting tourism and what a bunch of idiots ("imbéciles") they were.

She directed us to the parking area at the rear of her apartment, adjacent to the Aire and told us to help herself to her outside tap if required. That she would also look after our motorhome from her balcony whilst we were away.

I know how hard it can be sometimes and I like to help out where we can.

I needed information for a stop over in Portsmouth and it was great advice. Sometimes you just need a personal recommendation. 99% of the time we get along with the usual campercontact, britstops or park4night.

ive always said when you go on a package holiday somewhere hot and white it could be anywhere only the menu and currency tells you where you are and now its not even the currency since the euro

Leeds Liverpool canal?!

Someone on this site asked about a stop near our motorway junction.

They had seen it on Park for night.

looks good?

Well its just off the motorway, Tesco Extra and fuel across the road. You can get into town, airport and city close by,

For those of a sensative dispostion, please do not watch the following videos....

(you have been warned)

I was going to ask for recommendations for a site between the Chester and Newark meets.

It’s an area that’s totally unfamiliar to me but have booked CAMH sites at Chatsworth and Poolsbrook to be on the safe side.

If anyone has any better suggestions, I am open to offers 🤣🤣

I thought the idea of a forum was to share information.
I've searched information on this forum and sometimes when one enters the keyword you still have to go digging through lots of information to find or in many cases not find what you're looking for so its easier to ask. Also asking afresh gives more current info and a chance for new input from old and new members.
🤔

I can't see a problem with people asking if anyone doesn't want to help just ignore it. If people are bothered about reading the posts maybe the title ought to include advice needed so they can ignore it without reading it

Ah Janine - I do believe there's a pedestrian gate into the 'Park' surrounding Chatsworth from the campsite. Not into the formal gardens surrounding the house itself though - the Duke of Devonshire isn't that generous!

I frequently do a after work plymouth to Barnsley (same ish as Leeds to Torquay without the a380) & I ain’t telling where I stop, don’t want to turn up & find I am attending a fun rally At midnight.
As a relatively newbie I do find that the helpfulness of you lot very endearing though & hope in time I can return the advice to others

I think you are missing something, yes. Often, forums are seen as a kind of friendship group and to further this have meets, as this one does. Taking that into account, what's wrong with asking these 'friends' for their advice and / or experience of certain stops or, indeed, anything? If you don't like that kind of 'conversation' you can always scroll on by, just as you might decide not to take part in a real conversation. Some people like to ask, others like to find out for themselves. Neither is better than the other, just a different way of being :)

Maybe there should be a specific forum section on where to go and stay.

then those that want to help or need help have a section they can go to.

but me personally I do a bit of homework for myself.

Silly me. There I am thinking that a forum like this might be for sharing ideas, experiences etc as an enhancement to the normal methods of asking around and searching the internet. Just exactly what would the forum be for if we can't ask questions like that?

I've no problems with people asking but I will ignore those incredibly vauge - 'I'm going to Spain in the motorhome - any suggestions of good stop off places'. Someone asked on a Facebook group recently 'Any suggestions of somewhere to go for a couple of weeks in the UK?'

Personally I wouldn't trust random peoples recommendations anyway. We are all so different in what we consider 'nice'.

Give a specific route, area, type of place then great. Otherwise I will ignore.

Personally for my before coming on a forum I will use park4nite, search for sites, google, Camping car park, etc etc. Then if I still need more specific info I might ask.

I do remember when I was a complete newbie and know nothing about the above I may have asked one or two inane questions though.

We do plenty of research on sites using the usual apps. However, you cannot beat recommendations from the knowlegable like-minded people who frequent this forum. Our adventures into motorhome travelling have been greatly enhanced by joining. We are happy to return the help to fellow members wherever we are able.
Safe and happy travels to all 👍

I do a mixture of both some reaserch and asking if anyone has local knowledge of an area I do think that's what Motorhome Fun is about sharing knowledge.

I do lots and lots of my own research - I love doing it and it fills the gaps between trips ;) I use Camper Contact, Park 4 Night, France Passion, ACSI, good old Google maps, and any other source of useful info I can find eg. YouTube, Facebook, forums. I love the threads on here where people have shared nice places they have stayed or where they ask for suggestions - you can't beat local knowledge and experience and even if they don't fit with what we're currently planning (or even if I've never heard of it before), if I like the look of a place I save it to my Google map for future reference. Likewise I'm happy to share my own suggestions of places to stay (or not!).

Sometimes asking a vague question means you get the answer you weren't expecting, but which actually turns out to the be the answer you really needed
