Peniscola any good?

Looking to maybe book something around peniscola but have no clue if the place is nice and worth visiting?
Any advice much appreciated.
 
I love the area, lots of walking and cycle routes, busy little towns of Peniscola and Benicarlo. Loads of cheap camperstops too.

Very nice place. Some sites have quite tight pitches so have a walk around first. Excellent tapas in the old walled town. Great long beachfront for dog walking. A few wild camping spots right on the beach as well. Gets busy during Spanish bank holidays.
 
Called in when on a cruise just for a day. I thought it was one of the best stops on the cruise.

The old walked town was a bit of a tourist trap but ignore the tourist shops and it was lovely.
 
We visited during end of September one year but the campsite Eden in the town was full! I wanted to visit the castle where El CID was filmed. We were a bit further north at L’Amelta de Mar camping in the town and that was good for walking along the cliffs etc. and ended up at Oropesa del Mar a bit further south when Eden was full. We enjoyed it there on the beach too. Plenty of walking and cycling.

Just need somewhere thats close to walk in do the food shopping, get a coffee , take the dog a walk without having to treck too far .
 
We really like it there - and while it is touristy, most of the tourists when we’ve been are Spanish, so not somewhere to go if you want to be surrounded by other British. Having said which, Camping Eden, where we generally go, has loads of German & Dutch and a surprising number of Swedes. Lots of good cycle paths, although the path alongside the beach is now pedestrian only, and you have to cycle on the road. (Even though lots of cyclists seem to just ignore the change.)

Good old LIDL in Benicarlo.
 
We like Peniscola the castle and old town are nice and good beach and prom. 😎
Last time we stayed on Camping Vizmar pitches are Small 😉 but so is our motorhome 6m but 7m with the bike rack. 😁
It's cheap and cheerful, staff are friendly and a cycle route outside the gate and only €12 a night on the Acsi card. 😀 Bob.

It's a lovely place to visit, we went years ago,and are hoping to go again next year. :xsmile:

Stopped at a small hotel in Peniscola after Ironman Barcelona. Once booked into the hotel, I was informed by the receptionist that the cast from Game of Thrones had booked out the rest of the hotel. Bit surreal sat at the roof bar with the the actors drinking at tables next to us.

Cracking old castle and I love the old town.

Stayed in Peniscola a few times with our MH. Good stopover overall. Enjoy.
 
We stopped over for a day and a night in Peniscola last month. There is a new private aire about 10 minutes walk to the beach, and then about another 5 minutes to the old town. Functional rather than great.

Old town interesting. Used as a set for loads of films and TV series, and has a walking trail with information signs. It was very quiet though. Not many bars or restaurants open in winter. Very different from Benidorm or even Moraira or Javea which have a winter tourist season. Peniscola pretty much shuts up shop.

Even in the summer I'd struggle to spend more than a few days in the town.

stayed at Eden, while we visited a vet with our poorly dog.
Great vet if you ever need one, and a lovely town to walk around.
 
Sounds like we're heading for benicarlo/ Peniscola in the morning (y)

Once we realised it wasn't a new type of soft drink, we loved Peniscola, staying at Vizmar. But we were out of season, mid-February. Ah the memories of the nice sunny weather..........:xsad:

Stayed there a couple of weeks ago. Very good pitches with leccy and water. Dog friendly. ACSI. Beach nearby. Good onsite restaurant.

Has some static vans as well. Oddly City fan one side and a Red Manc opposite..... ;)
 
We like it and also staued at the Eden. The castle is mega and was used in the film of El Cid and I couldn't wait to see it. It did not disappoint. Enjoy!
