I wouldn't carry my passport around even if there was a local law requiring it. Far too much chance of losing it or being mugged. Our passports stay in the safe in the MH.

Yes unless you have an Identity Card, which most countries now have

One of the sites we regularly stay at in Munich requires that you leave ID at the desk, they always suggest passport. I always give them wife's driving licence. All that want is an assurance that you will return and pay your bill, so anything official will suffice, seems fair enough to me. I have worked in Hotel trade, and you'd be surprised at the tricks people come up with for a free ride!

We always leave a photocopy of our passports if asked and these have been accepted without question. We once left our ACSI card at a municipal in the Alsace and they couldn't find it on check out so they gave us a new one from one of the ACSI books that they had for sale!! (it was in Italian:LOL:)..

Why??

Don't think the old ones would be acceptable as ID and even passports do not have address details.

I had to change mine because of LGV entitlement and renewal every 5 years for medicals but would have changed anyway, it is a very convenient form of ID which is accepted by most.

Never found a reason to change so hence originals

I have one of those small, shiny metal mirrors in my wallet.

If somebody wants ID, I say "I'm JJ."

If they want more than that, I get out the "mirror" and look at it...

"Yes" I assure them, "I am definitely JJ."

The main reason I asked is that I was talking to an old friend recently and he still had his old licence because he thought that he would lose the 7.5 ton entitlement if he changed,

As I said earlier I find it a very useful form of ID both in the UK and in Europe.

You don't need your UK passport to re-enter Britain anyway now,, as thousands at calais will agree with.

I would like to make it as clear as it is possible to do so using only words, that I have never, ever used "wacky baccy" nor would I, under any circumstances what so ever, ever think of doing so.

I do not, however, object in the least bit to others smoking it as long as its digusting smell doesn't reach me.
