Staying at Chirk but want to call in at Shrewsbury on way home!Any parking suggestions 6 mtr coahbuilt!

Big Carpark behind theatre Severn. Normally a few vans parked on that one.

I would say Abbey Foregate is closest. Only 5 mins walk into town. Beautiful walk up into town via the River Severn and The Quarry. Cross over the English Bridge and if on left walk down in front of terrace of houses. On right steep steps down to footpath. Coffee in the park, talk to Queenie the chinese girl who runs it or The Old Armoury for lunch a little further on ( dog friendly). The Sabrina boat trip by Welsh Bridge and the straight up into town. A right turn in The Quarry will take you straight up to the circular church at the top which is very interesting and again straight into town. If you have a Dog they are allowed in the shopping malls. Have a lovely day

Cheers! Thanks for replies!Abbey Foregate sounds the best if we can get our coach built into it or else it will be park and ride!,

Slip the charity that runs the Showground camping. I’m sure they will be glad to let you park.
About 15 mins walk into town.

When you go to the circular church, have a look in the graveyard for the grave of Ebenezer Scrooge - a left-over from the filming of Muppets Christmas Carol.

I didn't know that! Been there quite a few times too.

There is a 5 van Certified Location Campsite { Big Caravan and Motorhome storage compound } in Shrewsbury. Not far from Tesco Shrewsbury.

Frankley Car Park behind the Severn Theatre that some one else has mentioned. Not sure if it has a height restriction but its pretty much town centre and its nice down there. I don't have a motorhome yet but been lurking and learning for a month or two. 🙂

Think it might be called Frankwell? We parked there a couple of years ago. Best way to see the town is the cheap river boat round trip from the English Bridge (I think)....make a mental note of the interesting places and then walk straight to them! Agree with the Circular church (fabulous stained glass windows) and the graveyard.

Correct. I was not awake properly earlier 🙂 Frankwell. Frankley would be on the M5.... 🙄

It's the Welsh Bridge. Boat called Sabrina. From Frankwell over the suspension bridge. Lots of steps down through the old shopping centre though they have been redeveloping it so may not be open. The walk through the Quarry park is beautiful. And the central garden called the Dingle which was Percy Throwers garden. Old castle to see by the ornate railway station and up beyond the station accessed along Castle Walk is the old jail The Dana. Sometimes guided walks.

Yes..we stayed there last December it was great for the town 5 minute walk..it can flood there though..arrive after 6 (I think) and it was free..then pay for the day..we needed 2 bays but it was a Saturday night after 6..and Sunday was free...enjoy..no height barrier last December

If flooding is a possibility, do not under any circumstances consider parking at Frankwell. Vehicles are lost every year down there.

We went yesterday for a walk around. We often go on Sundays, but hadn't been since February. Reading this thread made me want to go there . I have to say, I was a bit disappointed because the atmosphere was different from usual. Understandably so. It was very quiet in town, but we had a nice walk along the river.
I particularly like the park because it has such an old-fashioned feel - families with dogs and children, enjoying their Sunday walk and games.
