Getting better
Can any funsters advise on parking in Cambridge as I believe that the P&R are all height restricted.

Yes we live in South Cambs. As far as i can remember the height barriers are just over 2m.

I thought they would raise/remove it if you phoned and asked.

The P&R web site confirms height restrictions at all sites now. I recall that Trumpington used to be accessible but there were several traveller incursiuons which cost the county council a lot of money. The current Trumpington page says nothing about motorhomes.
It may be worth contacting them or the City Council to ask for advice.

I just typed in Cambridge park and ride and it shows Trumpington.
When I typed that it only came up with the official pages which make no mention of motorhomes.
Typing in "Cambridge park and ride motorhomes" comes up with pages from Search for Sites and a couple more but they appear to be out of date.

Madingley Road has a coach area that may be suitable for motorhomes (£10)

Most councils tend to restrict coach parking to coaches only so it's always best to check before parking in coach spaces.

This could be true. It still says drive down the slip road signed John Lewis. I just looked. Maybe a phone call to Cambridge tourist board might help.

This is a screen shot from Google maps and depending on how up to date Google maps of this area is, but it shows an area of the Trumpington P&R with a dedicated parking area and one of the vans parked there looks more like a MH than a camper van.

You can park, free, in street in Histon/Impington and get on the bus there.Timing restrictions for Bus passes at all the sites.

We recently visited St Ives where there was easier parking & used the busway into Cambridgehttps://thebusway.info/
The Car park on London Road has no Height restriction & is £1 per day 52°19'18.6"N 0°04'36.8"W
We were parked in a field for a rally a few weeks ago a couple of hundred yards from the car park. You can walk over the bridge to the bus terminus in about 8-10 mins. & the busway route goes into the middle of Cambridge.
Regards

Arthur.

A603 Barton Road has a large layby used by coaches etc .... As an option.
Yes but it's quite a walk into the centre and the coach drivers don't take kindly to miss taking space on their free parking area.

This site is not council owned or run.

I live just outside Cambridge and work in the city, depends when you plan to arrive.
Cambridge pretty quiet, but schools back in a week or two.
An ideal spot to park is on Trumpington road opposite the the Botanical gardens (pay at meter).
Easy access, only 10 mins walk to city centre.
If that fails carry on towards city and turn round at mini island, head back up Trumpington rd to Park and ride.
Beware city centre parking is expensive, over 5hrs expect to pay £25.
Trumping park and ride may be your best choice.

Check out #Cowsaboutcambridge.
Tourist trail around city until mid September.

I think that Google Earth image is out of date.
The image from Google Maps (dated 2021) shows different bay markings and the "Camper Van" wording seems to have been erased.

Wouldn't recommend Cambridge Road, Histon. Restrictions now make it difficult and it's too far out of town. We used to live in that area.

I used Trumpington just before the Thetford bash , with no problems. You use the John Lewis entrance. There is an arm type barrier which is maned. You use the intercom to gain access. You can check this out with the Park & Ride website phone no, the attendant was extremely helpful.

The guy on the phone did say however that cars get priority in busy periods, so expect the motorhome area to have cars parked.

I am talking about station road by mace stores, where the guided bus stops it’s £4 into the city from there.

If doing this, check times that barrier comes down in the evening or you may well be stuck there.

We stayed at Milton Country Park near to Cambridge North train station. It was £10 to park overnight and very safe with loads of space. Nearby Tesco’s too if you need fuel or provisions
