After two nights parked very near QMJ by the local (free) motorhome emptying and filling place because a few days of heavy rain had made the track a tad muddy, I have just pulled back onto my tiny piece of Portugal.

It is looking really green and lush!

The mini tour to the Algarve for social and business reasons was brilliant but how I missed my orchard.

Three days of sunshine are forecast which should give me a chance to do some mowing and bonfire lighting...

Then, as the temperature drops, I guess I will head south again.

I did save myself quite a few euros by returning to free loading (now my fridge is all fixed) after nights on "sites" for the EHUs.

I LOVED waking up in the morning and not knowing what I would be doing that day or even where I was going to park for the night!

How I adore "Off Site" motorhoming.

I plan to post some photos tomorrow.

Looks like you could get an EHU point installed !
Put up a shed and you have somewhere to keep the garden furniture

So do we, but I thought 'Off site' had been banned in Portugal, so how does one manage it?

Am I correct in thinking it was damaged by fire earlier in the year ?
Looks lush now 👍
Hope the wildlife returns
The fire (69 deaths) was several years ago... wildlife (including Maurice the mole) is/has recovering/recovered...

I do have a shed built (from QMJ grown wood) by Funsters Sundowners hidden away. I also have solar from the panels on my old self build Iveco (now my second shed) which powers the borehole pump.

So do we, but I thought 'Off site' had been banned in Portugal, so how does one manage it?
Out of season there are hundreds and hundreds of places you can off site in Portugal (especially away from the Algarve) and loads of emptying points with water all over the country.

Just to cheer you up let me tell you that my ride on mower has failed to start and my plans for the next couple of days have had to be changed...

We heard that off-site camping had been banned, then the law modified, so what is the position now?

I can understand that bans might be enforced on the Algarve, at least the central bits, but are bans being enforced:-

a) in summer along the coast further north?
b) in summer inland?
c) anywhere out of summer - what is summer and not?

I ask because I understand the GNR can be quite oppressive

We are probably like you wanting quiet spots in forests, lakes, but maybe by the northern beaches.

Would we have any problem in summer?

I don't ever read any of the ex-pats' "gossip" Web pages and so am not aware of what "bans" are or are not in place.

I have never found the GNR to be anything other than polite, friendly and helpful.

I have never ever been asked to move on by them.

I have not (yet?) had any problems anywhere in Portugal whilst "off site" motorhoming...

On my last trip to the Algarve I actually paid for "sites" at Parchal, Silves and Armacão de Pera because my fridge needed EHU.

On the same trip I free loaded at Pego (4 nights), Tomar (5 nights) and Evora (2 nights).

At other trips on the way up or down I often off site near Pont de Sor (river side), Coruche, Abrantes, Mertola, Minas de Sao Domingos etc.

I hope this helps a little...

And nicholsong,
JJ, would your travelling, obviously, in a Portuguese registered van make any difference, or are the police even handed?

I can only comment on how the GNR have treated me when we have come into contact at road side checks.

Maybe my little bit of Portuguese might amuse them!

But they have always been very polite and correct even when fining me for paperwork misdemeanours.

Mind you... some of them seem to be about 15 years old.

My mommy always told me that when the policemen started looking younger it was a true sign that you were getting older ....... clearly not in my case. (I wish!)

Oh good! I was wondering where the Black Beast was! Mind you with all the "green" around I didn't realise the pics were taken from the rear part of the land!

On the road again... Tomar last night and now at Coruche... staying close (ish) to home just in case my old van sells and I have to sign papers...

JJ

Proper free loading now as I am plugged into the electricity which I understand to be free...
