Picked it up on 16th September. :giggle::giggle::giggle: (y)(y)(y)

Lady on the phone said call it a Motorhome. I didn’t insure with them anyway.

I always refer to mine as just The Van,,which it was before Autosleeper got hold of it.BUSBY.

As do I. Sometimes the truck. I've emailed the CCC:

"I note that on the booking page under Type of Unit you have separate categories for Campervan and Motorhome. Amongst the owners I know or those who frequent dedicated internet forums the two terms are interchangeable and none of us understand the division of the logbook (V5) entry of " Motor Caravan" into two booking categories. Can you explain your logic in doing so and how owners can determine which category their "vans" (by far the most common term) fall into."

Actually, when out and about in ours we call it home 🏡 👍

Campervan magazine includes large PVC's in its pages so they regard them as campers...mind you that could just be to broaden the appeal of the magazine. We always regarded our last (large) La Strada PVC as a campervan even though it was totally self-contained, while coachbuilts, A Classes etc are to us MoHo's. This was just because ours was based on a van (and partly because the term campervan sounds much cooler  ).

What’s on the v5 😷
Just tried to re-register my panel van conversation as a motorhome, dvla will now only register as (van with windows), even though we followed and met all thier specifications.

Why the confusion?

Sliding door = Campervan

Hinged door = Motorhome
Act or Statutory Instrument to confirm this please?

(Don't bother looking, there isn't one)

All coach builts and most A class are based on the same - although admittedly the converter buys the chassis-cab or chassis-cowl versions.

It’s whatever you want it to be, if it’s got somewhere to sit, sleep, eat an travel it’s a camper an. If you add hot an cold water , toilet and wash facilities it’s a motor home or a motor caravan.

If you want to reg a PVC then try changing to a Motor Caravan and not Motorhome , Campervan etc. Obviously it has to meet all current regs😉

I read somewhere that a Campervan is defined as a vehicle that has been converted using the original body. A motorhome is defined as using a bare chassis with the bodywork built by someone else.

This is a common problem. The V5 description is how the vehicles looks in traffic but does not stop it being used as a campervan with associated speed limits etc.

I have a very simple theory - if it is a van conversion it is a campervan, irrespective of size, or fixed toilet etc. If it is a coachbuilt then it is a Motorhome - simples!!
I Googled it, as you do, and that was the answer I found - coachbuilt = motorhome, van based = camper van. We call our converted transit 'the van'. But I'm going to try and get it reclassified by the DVLA, so we'll see what they call it!

Ask on here if anyone has a PVC that is by a large manufacturers in the last 6 month's. They reg themselves so register the same as they do, chances are it will be as I said earlier Motor caravan 👍you put in the box to change of use so if they don't agree then you will get van with windows .

I asked on a previous thread though what happens when you convert into a camper /motorhome a van that is already registered as a " van with windows"?

That's the wonderful thing about the internet. You can find answers to everything with Google, but how do you know whether they are definitive, wrong, or just someone else's opinion?

To me what you call your flexible home on wheels is a mindset.
Our last vehicle 2019 VW California was definatly a 'Camper' ultra cool, fantastic to drive, an iconic vehicle for the young at heart.
Our new van a Hymer Grand Canyon S is a little more grown up, a great vehicle and is in my opinion a 'Camper Van'
Anything else is referred to in VW Cali circles as a 'Great White'

Love it! :giggle:

It was a good number of years back when booking a C&MHC site (was just CC then) and saw that choice of campervan or MH had to be made. Entered details under MH and no spaces available. Changed it to campervan and there was availability so booked with same details. They took a dim view on our arrival and reluctantly let us in. To be fair, space was tight. Warden said campervan only applied to VW types but accepted there was no spec on their website.
