In summer 2020, we are booked on a morning ferry Newhaven to Dieppe. Check in is about 0700am.
Has anyone out there experience of staying overnight in the parking area at the ferry port?
Can we?
Should we?

Thank you for that Ivory55. Useful knowledge!
...... sounds like a plan.

I've used Newhaven for 40 years and live nearby. No problem parking at the port but in the highly unlikely event there's no space there's an industrial estate right opposite the port entrance with loads of space.
Newhaven town is quite frankly a bit run down so don't bank on eating out. I always take my own food for during the crossing. The coffee in the bar is o.k. though.
It's probably too late as you've already booked but if the 'lead' person on the ticket is over 60 you get a 20% discount on the whole fare (except for the cabin charge), but you have to book by phone.

We have stayed overnight in the port carpark no problem
But I have also gone into the ferry terminal to ask if there were any spaces on the late night ferry and have managed to change my booking at no extra cost then stayed on aire at the other side

Your taste buds must be shot, used to be OK but since they put new machines in a couple of years ago it's rubbish. We take a flask of freshly brewed coffee on board with us.

We parked almost next door at the back of B&Q, little sort of pull in, and very quiet.

.......... Doh! I wish I’d known that!
Perhaps not well publicised.

It’s all useful information. Thank you all!
We’re planning to be in France for a few weeks in July and August. We normally wouldn’t think of France in peak holiday time (continental touring we usually do in May and June), but our 4 kids and 8 grandkids have all booked a big (BIG) holiday house in mid-France for a week, and we are going to stay with them. We decided to go in the motorhome, and make a tour of it. Pre-booking campsites is something I’ve never done - except in the UK.
Our normal ferry of choice is overnight from Hull to Rotterdam or Zeebrugge, but we agreed to visit other relatives “darn sarth” on the way.

I rarely drink coffee but it's more palatable to me than their dishwater tea.
Tea in the m/h never tastes as good over there as it does at home (and I drink about ten mugs of tea a day - often one on the go indoors with another in my workshop).
I blame the French water.

........ There’s a whole other thread awaiting about tea-drinking whilst travelling. Sad, but true, we always take huge amounts of Yorkshire tea bags with us when we travel. After running out of “proper” tea bags somewhere in Germany, and trawling odd supermarkets, we vowed that we would always take excessive amounts of Yorkshire tea with us.

Always enjoy my morning cuppers everywhere I go abroad in the van.Yorkshire T Bags of course.BUSBY.
