Hi does anyone know if you can stay overnight in the channel tunnel carpark on the UK side , it would enable an early crossing . Thanks

Not that I know of, many people stop at the park and ride aire Canterbury, about 30 minutes from the tunnel. Decent services, barrier ticket lets you all ride on the bus for free. It' about £4

Thanks dogeared good suggestion !

No you can't. You can't enter the terminal until 2 hours before the train you are going to take. They simply don't have space to allow overnighting as trains run 24 hours a day.

You have some options though if you are going to get there in the evening.

The best one is to get a late train and sleep the other side. Cite Europe is about 5 minutes from the tunnel and if you don't want to stay there there plenty of other places within a few minutes.

If you don't want to do that then there are plenty of places to overnight within 25 minutes of the terminal. The best option is Canterbury Park and Ride as long as you can be there before 8.30pm after which time the entry barrier is locked and you won't be able to enter. You can exit at any time.

They've changed the pricing. It runs from midnight to midnight now so if you stay there overnight you pay for 2 days parking which is £7 in total.

They would will probably offer you an earlier train (possibly on payment of a supplement) should you turn up early. The option will pop up at the toll machine. In my experience I have been offered earlier alternatives several times (sometimes FOC). It depends if the one you were booked on was cheaper than the alternative. They don't want vehicles taking up space.

I don't think we've ever actually taken the train we've booked in either direction.

When you get to check in, which ever side, it will offer you the next available trains. If you're within 2 hours of your booking this will include your booked train, if not it won't. If the train you choose is the same price or less than the one you booked there won't be a charge, if it's more expensive you will have to pay the difference.

If you're more than 2 hours before your booking and don't want to accept any of the earlier trains offered you will not be able to check in or get through the barriers. You'll have to go away and come back nearer to your time.

Why don't you catch an evening train and stay in the Citi du Europe, Calais. Always loads of vans there VERY safe and no migrants to be seen. After a good nights sleep you are fresh a ready for your onward journey

Exactly what he said.

You could also try the Drum Inn, Stone St, Stanford North, Ashford TN25 6DN Tel 01303 812125. Good food as well and less than 4 minutes from tunnel entrance

theres a little cl just past the drum turn left by the petrol station cheaper for the night but could be tight for larger vans

As others have said, take a cheaper crossing late afternoon/early evening and nip round the corner to Cite Europe for a free night.
