As a newbie to all this I was wondering if is best to be buy a cable lock to loop through chairs and tables to stop an opportunist walking off with something in the night. I realise there are light fingered folk everywhere and was wondering if it is common practise even on CaMC sites to nail anything than can move down.

Don't know if comman practise but yes I do.. long steel cable slotted thru wheel then laced thru whatever been left out.

Over the years we've lost bikes and Lafuma chairs right off the pitches. We use a loop that is connected to our alarm, takes one minute to alarm everything of value, bikes, chairs and barbie etc.

Crumbs, we've never done this! Perhaps we should!? But then we've never had anything stolen either in the UK, France or Spain. Perhaps our stuff isn't worth stealing.

On our strike back alarm from Eddie at Vanbitz we have an alarm loop which can be used for the exact reason your asking.

It's going to depend on the site, and potential value of the items.

I've stayed, whilst tenting, on big 500+ pitch sites in the midst of the New Forest. Chair, table, cooking stove and all sorts left out the front of the tent whilst I've been out all day, and at night whilst asleep. Nothing to chain them to. Always been there on return. But the kit was cheap, equally it would have been easy to walk off with.

But the same sites were always giving warnings that bikes would be taken. People could wander in off the forest, and disappear again. They even knew of bikes that had been lifted from the back of MH racks.

Now I have the van, no choice but to have the bike outside overnight as no space inside, I'll lock it with gold standard locks to the tow bar rack, the tow bar rack also has additional cable lock whilst on site and for good measure the Strikeback alarm accessory loop is wrapped around. And cover over so no passer by easily knows what it is. Table and chair I'll probably take a chance on since they are really cheap and cheerful.

All the outdoor kit we bring out on site can be packed away in the van in less than 5 minutes.

I put bikes away but leave out table and chairs. Coming from tent camping and holidays with open MGs where in both cases all belongings, except a shoulder bag with money and passport, are left unsecured, I have got used to it. Only thing ever stolen was the children’s blow up boat stolen from tent in France on first night. I was upset for them

My plan was to have a strikeback fitted but COVID-19 put paid to that at least in the short term.

We always put ours in their place in the garage in case of rain or heavy dew.

They stow right by the door - one minute job.

We went with the two lounge layout so we could give the grandkids their own seating/bed area so we don't have a garage just a locker and everything won't fit.

In Spain I thread the EHU cable through the table and chairs. It plugs in inside the battery cupboard so can't be just unplugged, also the other end is locked in the meter cupboard, 😍

We always lock up our bikes but not anything else.
