I think there’s been posts about driving out but can’t find them. The beloved motorhome has been sitting in the driveway since lockdown. We are thinking of going out somewhere tomorrow in it. We live in Worthing in the south coast. Ideally driving about 50 miles round trip somewhere but could be more.
We did think of a NT property but then thought of spaces in car park - would there be enough room for us ?. (I know you have to book)
Any thoughts of somewhere nice - enough room to park and somewhere to walk and then sit a while.
Be grateful of any ideas/suggestions please.

How about Firle, just off the A27 going to Eastbourne, easy drive from Worthing and a walk on the South Downs Way.

You may even see some paragliders chancing it if the wind is due south.

Went out in ours yesterday over the cat and fiddle, stopped walked the dog, had half a can of coke each and came home.

Was out for 2 hours in total...

It was like we had just done a full European tour when we got home.. first time the van turned a wheel since lockdown..

Bliss

We are in Lancing, last Monday we took the van up to Firle Beacon 22 miles from us so perfect for you. Nice easy walking as you park right on top of the downs. We had a cupper did a short walk 4/5 miles then cooked dinner mid afternoon was very tempted to stay the night.
Plenty of room for parking Motorhomes.

As Figaro said, just drive and you will find somewhere
It's legal as long as you return home the same day
I'm giving ours a run this week to drop off a motorbike frame to have a bit of welding done then off for a few miles to charge the battery up etc
My daughter is in Brighton and we have spent lovely times visiting her and walking the Downs
Enjoy

We have been thinking about a short ride out. so I sent E-Mail to the ER council about the P&R at Bridlington. This is (text of) their reply.

Dear Peter

The Bridlington Park and Ride has opened for vehicles to park for the day at a cost of £5, however there is no complimentary bus or land train service.

The public conveniences are also open.

Please call 01262 671051 on approach to the park and ride and it will be arranged for the height restriction barrier to be lifted.

Kind Regards

Hi If your worried, You can always say your out for an eye test run !
Andy

I believe that, although some National trust properties and car parks are now open, you have to book online for a timed slot. (The houses are closed, just the parklands are open)

How about Hayling Island ? nice big car parks there with no height barriers and last time we were there before lockdown the toilets were open to but don't know about know !

I can now access ours as storage has relaxed lockdown. Booked out tomorrow and I'm taking it out for a run to get the wheels turning etc.

We certainly did. We drove up to Firle Beacon and found a fantastic spot to park. Lovely clear views. Stayed for ages. Nice walk. There were three other motorhomes possibly one overnighter. Will definitely go again. Thanks.
It felt really good going out again in it after such a long time. Hopefully an overnight stay or weekend trip next time out

Thats sounds like a nice target for our first journey out also, but I did notice on Google Earth a height barrier to the main car park:mad:
But the pictures shows a true FLT in an old van conversion, maybe a full timer, you judge not me, towels out, plus washing up bowl, I would give the thumbs up, but how long before bollards go in also?
Thanks for sharing.

The fence is rolled back beside the height barrier also there is plenty of parking outside the height barrier.
If you were French you would get 50 or 60 vans up there.

Went to Tatton Park on Sunday about 25 miles from where we live so could give MH a run on motorway, parked up did an hours walk and had lunch in the van, then did 2 hour walk returned had a brew spoke and had a laugh with a number of camper van owners parked close to us. (Parking area is massive) Then a few non motor homers parked nearby joined in on the conversations as they were sat on deckchairs having a brew at back of their cars, and came over and were asking what facilities were inside the vans and seemed surprised when explained everything and were self contained.
The park is that big you could wander round and not be in 100 meters of someone if you wished but everyone was sensible and friendly, the staff were were on the ball directing you to a parking place and telling you what was open and what was not.
The M6 on the return home was quiet and saw a few MHs. The park is open 10-4 and cost £7 to park for the day, some people will moan at that but that’s the way it is.

Am I right in thinking that Tatton has a Huge Largely Glass Hall?. used for concerts etc? or is that somewhere else? Must be near 30 years since we where there.

We couldn’t get into The Hall as it’s still closed but it looks predominantly brick to my untrained eye, the gardens opened back up yesterday if you pre book, we were in the parkland which is full of deer, sheep etc.

Looks ideal as it is right next the beach to walk the dog - did you go? Is there plenty of parking for motorhome?

Thanks

Did you have to pre book for Tatton car park?

No it’s massive I would estimate a quarter full at most. The gardens opened on Monday you need to book for that but the 1000 acres of parkland and mere kept us well occupied.👍

Tatton sounds great - anyone know anything similar say within 60 minutes of York? Looking to make a few day trips in the motorhome to break the monotony.

Yes we went, But decided to go North End and parked on the road by the "Expanse Hotel", which we have often done. to get Fish and Chips from the Outside Outlet. Not wishing to queue inside one of the town Chippy`s. And the `van got "wellied" by a lady driver who reversed out of the parking space across two lanes and hit us!.  So spent this morning sorting the "arrangements" with the Insurers!. We await their assessment. So the NCD hangs in the balance.!
