Our old motorhome & I'm glad there are no fancy electronics

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
Our Swift Kon-Tiki is 27..or very nearly 28yrs old, so its analogue with very little in the way of electronics.
To cut a long story short, the old girl hasn't been started since September 5th which is unusual as I love winter in the motorhome, but I got a chance to go out to her today & despite a horizontal blizzard following a week of sub 0c I turned the key & she fired up instantly.
Her tick over was a tad lumpy for 5mins or so, but soon settled down to a perfect rhythm.
Now I know that even with these old vehicles things can go wrong, but I feel so proud that she fired up immediately.

The handbrake had also been left on (not something that I normally do) & I eased the brake off & she sprang forward too.

Next out came my damp meter & despite being outdoors & filthy, she is perfectly dry.

Time to get her MOT booked & get back to normal outings.

Me too, I really expected problems, but she rolled off the ramps & back up with no issues whatsoever.
Time to get a lottery ticket.
 
Same with mine,,not quite as old at 20 but just sailed through its MOT again,,,Simple basic motorhome but it takes us to Spain France and Portugal twice a year and has done so for the last six years excepting 2020 when we only went once..BUSBY.

I am totally in tune with your thinking, particularly with our 2.8jtd.
I take it to our local commercial garage and they can do all necessary.
My situation is even better now it is vintage registered in Poland so no further ' MOT' for life (daft I know).

ambulancekidd I have just bought a new vehicle battery to allow me to charge and swop over the winter whilst in storage (after blowing the Airbag ECU) boosting a flat battery.
I would love to join you in owning a more simplistic motorhome ( my daily driver is a Morris minor) but….
we have an alarm and tracker, both of which probably contribute to the flat battery but make the motorhome more secure.
we got 32mph out of our Fiat Ducato 2.2 150bhp engine (pre-AdBlu) over a recent trip to France (1500 miles).
after watching countless Vlogs (including These Happy Days) we have come to the conclusion that old motorhomes can be money pits - my Morris is called Maurice Money Pit for a reason (£11,000 this year and counting😱).

Spent very little on mine since the expense 6 years ago of a new diesel heater,,ouch,,It will be a cheap Chinese one next time, Need a couple of new front tyres after Xmas, BUSBY.
