Thought some of you might be interested in our Indian trip. We are travelling around the south before heading north.

Internet is spotty so I’ll just whack up some pictures.

Any questions just ask. We are really enjoying ourselves, fantastic food, wonderful people and we’ve seen some awesome sights. It’s very hot mid 30’s and humid. The monsoon rains are also late in leaving this year so we’ve had some huge thunderstorms.

Our eldest daughter Libby joined us for the first 2 weeks in Kerala. Our youngest son Harry is also travelling with us for some of the time.

We are using local drivers for some trips and a mix of public transport (trains, busses, tuk tuk and taxis).

We have some accommodation booked but are chancing it in some places.
We have a loose itinerary.

We’ve used an Indian company called India Someday to book trains and drivers.

The trains get booked up fast so you do need to book these weeks in advance. Accommodation and trips etc can be sorted on the fly. Every temple has guides offering their services.

We are staying at homestays or hostels but have also thrown in a few nicer hotels for some much needed luxury (clean sheets and hot water!).

You lucky people, had the pleasure of visiting India a few times with work (Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru) and was lucky to get a week off in the middle of a 8 week stay in Bengaluru to have a holiday which was spent in Kerala with a couple of my work colleagues who came from the area, amazing country, lovely people and truly amazing food. Enjoy.

I spent 3 months in northern India and Nepal in 1986.
Great places. Best way to see the country is to stay in local hostels. Not 5 star luxury. Imho.

I wonder if you’d notice a difference if you came back now? Although lots of construction is going on, what we’ve seen so far feels like a time warp.

No 5 star luxury for us....sadly....I’m sharing my bathroom with huge hanging bats tonight!

Fascinating country but the driving is best left to the locals.

Absolutely! Although we spent 6 weeks in Vietnam this year and I’d say their driving and roads are worse than here.

Martin and Harry have hired motorbikes for a day and whilst they enjoyed it, I was relieved when they came back safe and sound.

More than toes wet now!
Single track roads, cows, stray dogs and goats in the way.
Could have saved yourselves a fortune and went to North \ West Scotland like us!
Your highlights are virtually identical to oors!(y)
Except substitute sheep for cows, sheep for stray dogs and eh, sheep for goats!
Indian carry-oot in Kirkwall was good.
Oh, and we got your monsoon, as well!
See just the same.
And, naw, we're no jealous! (Rat bags!):(:p

Dawn (I hope you don't mind me calling you by name, as we haven't met!!!) I love your threads, wherever, and this looks very interesting. Love, love, the colours and will be following with interest.

Don't bother with the negative comment. If Jim thinks it's not relevant where you post it, he'll move it OK?

Here are some funny ones..

We are constantly approached (politely) and asked for selfies or if they can take a picture of us...bizarre, so with these lads I asked for a picture in return....cheeky chaps went all gangsta on me!

Have you fallen in love yet, it doesn’t take long?! Long travels for some months in the north in 1977, then again in the south in 2010. Looking forward to your photos and travels, trying not to be too envious. :)

I have fallen in love with India, it’s undefinable why, but everyday something makes me smile and go “love it”.
Don’t know if it’s the food or a familiarity from the colonial past but I’m really enjoying it all.

Don’t be envious...visit again.

We are spending a few days in Pondicherry, it’s an old French colonial town on the coast below Chennai.

It’s broad tree lined avenues hark back to its French roots, however, it’s crumbling pavements and potholes are definitely Indian.

We came across some great street art.

REALLY ...?!?!?!? So all you needed to do was close it again - one click - you had to post - lots more effort - so why? And the ironic thing is that Mousey10 will have no idea why you’ve tagged them ....:rofl:

Post them anywhere you like Dawn - your Funster Friends will enjoy them as usual xx

All the people we’ve met have been really friendly and laid back. Be interesting to see if that changes as we travel north.
