Morning all! Considering joining either the C&CC or CAMC, primarily for access to their CL/CS sites.

One thing not made clear on either club website is whether it is possible to view availability of any or all of these smaller sites online, even if you then call to book?

Just wondered if anyone with existing membership could confirm please! Somehow I’m assuming that they probably don’t?

Cheers,

James

Assume “call to book”. That’s the typical.
A rare few have a web site or email booking.

Yes, not a chance. The clubs should really sort this out. If they offered the CL/CSs an online booking service for a small cut (i.e. £1 + card handling fees), I bet it would be very popular with the punters and massively reduce the number of annoying phone calls they get and cash they'd need to handle.

I, for one, would always book the online campsite, if there was one, even if it meant paying a small premium over nearby cash only ones. I'd think they'd get massively more custom.

Thanks all - yes in retrospect whilst it makes sense to expect to call to book, I guess it wouldn't make sense to have availability visible online unless that was then tied in with a booking system!

Unfortunatley we'll not be able to get away this weekend now as the van is not going to be back from the garage today after all.... glow plug removal has been problematic and unlikely we'll now get it back until Monday afternoon or Tuesday. Ah well, first trip will happen eventually!

JimmE sorry to dispute what has been said , although there is no official booking / availability from the clubs there are two facebook groups ...
CL Booking Group 16.5k members
And
Caravan & Motorhome C.L. & C.S. in UK , this has 30k members
Many of the smaller sites share their avalability here.

Hope this helps

:giggle:(y);)(y);)

Most of the ones I've been to are cash only business and would not want too much traceable paperwork

There's a FB group which gives an idea of availability for the next couple of months.

Just looking at your online booking and it seems to show £100 per night for 2 nights?
Hello you are correct and very observant. We found a glitch in our system and it was the only way we could think of to prevent people booking that date as the normal method failed. The date you selected coincides with an event here so we are full. However if anybody wants to pay £100 a night you will be very welcome our normal price is just £12 a night.

If people think handling cash is a problem they can give it to me, haha

We tend to ask by email

I have a standard form I send to them with all the details they could possibly want to ask. (Dates, adults, motorhome length, weight, height, hab door side, EHU, etc etc)

Always get a reply, even if negative.

The more 'automation / online stuff' the less inclined I'm feeling about going there....clean water, elsan point, and a farmers field will do!

Yes, I like all of those things. But with online booking so I know instantly if I should be driving in their direction, rather than the faff of a phone call answered (if at all) by the mother in law who doesn't really know where the book is and can I call back tomorrow?

Best sticking to big sites with a full staffed and computer system

Agreed.
Not liking one (websites) doesn’t rule out the other (simple camping).
You can have an easy online availability and booking website for a ploughed field

Which one are you referring to? I joined and had a quick look at the ones mentioned above and they seem to be either posts randomly asking for a space available for a certain date or lots of people arguing (and being quite rude) over reviews. Not really the sort of stuff I would want to wade through looking for a vacancy 🤔

CLBooking
It has a Google map overlay with availability.

Edit:
Just launched a website.
Not looked at it yet
https://www.clbooking.co.uk/

I had heard something was in the pipeline for the cl booking group from one of the owners when I was away last week👍

The problem with fb its that its just so messy to use - hope the new site takes off.

That's exactly what they apparently thought, hence setting up the website.
Have to say, I found the Google Map overlay to be easy enough to navigate.
I suspect that won't be updated now :(.

Apparently the cost of hosting will be born by the CL owners.
I would imagine it's not going to be completely comprehensive.
A positive step hopefully.

If it takes off hopefully lots of owners will join to spread the cost.

I was told they are only asked to be members of the camc thesedays but that's about it support wise from the club - they are on their own for the rest of it. I've heard from one or two cl owners that quite a few members think they are mini club sites, owned & run by CAMC.

Not really, as there are many times the number of small sites. These sites typically have much better availability than the club sites and cost around a quarter of the price. They are also often friendlier, with better views and not festooned in concrete. The only thing missing is website booking, preferably integrated into the club's main website, so you can search for sites with availability. Of course, the clubs won't do this as they want to sell you club sites at £40 a night.

I think quite a few 'members' are clueless :p
Not even all the CAMC sites are owned by the CAMC - eg Warwick & Uttoxeter racecourse.

Not a fan then .
Just for balance - I've booked three CAMC sites starting next week, under £19, under £21 and under £15 per night. My experience, Club sites are less expensive than commercial independent ones - and for me, usually about the same price as a CL.
