Had to book into a Premier Inn right near the beach in Great Yarmouth, for 2 nights as Motorhome needed warranty work and service, lovely 2 year old hotel , went into attached Beefeater restaurant, social distancing very good, food prepared by face shielded chefs ok so far , then along came Waiter , no mask ,as we are sitting down she was towering above us standing 2 foot away !! waiting for order, then delivered food again no mask !! next day we collected food from outside kitchen .
When I complained I was told that there no Government guidelines saying Waiters should wear some sort of face protection .I said it's common sense that should prevail, the Manager just repeated what she had already said. I had already emailed about how they served food , but, I did not ask whether they wore face protection. This is just for Info please be wary

Went out yesterday for lunch in a nearby pub. No sanitiser, no direction of travel, no masks, no visors, no signs about SD, food served straight at table, orders taken from the bar!!! Last week in Coniston, outside service, bars closed, temp taken on arrival and if anyone over 38 degrees then the whole party chucked out. Plastic shields everywhere. Brilliant!!

It's all a mess. We were in a bar yesterday evening, big arrows on the floor and signs explaining which direction to take. No one took the slightest bit of notice. God help us.

I fully understand your anxiety as you must be a very elderly vulnerable person who has always camped for 174 years, (since 1846 according to your profile).

Staff are not required to wear masks.
Logical?
But thems the rules.

You don't need to wear a mask either - you can drive a coach & horses through the exemptions.

The public are unlikely to buy into mask wearing as it doesn't protect the wearer... majority not interested in protecting strangers.

It's because we're all supposed to use our common sense, and the public can be trusted.... Well that's what Boris said.....

I do not know what some people do not UNDERSTAND about wearing a face mask. It is bloody obvious that they help prevent the spread of this very dangerous virus. Why does the front line workers all wear them ? It’ obvious it helps stop the spread of “ droplets “

I am nearly 76 and definitely do not want to gamble with my future, if I went into somewhere for a meal and I noticed that the server was not wearing a face shield or mask I would not place an order.

I’m not the brightest spark in the box, ( my mother’s words ) but I am not “ addle brained “ like a lot of today’s younger generation that do not seem to care about anyone else than theirselves. There are however quite a large number of our older population who need educating about how to avoid passing on the virus.

That’s the end of this evenings “ rant “.

As much as we would have liked to go out for our anniversary on Saturday I just don’t feel comfortable until the restaurants all work to the same rules.
We have been out for lunch to a chippy type restaurant on recommendation from a friend and the staff were on the ball. Lots of hand sanitizer, everything cleaned after each booking and staff wearing masks. I wouldn’t like to book some were for a special event and find it’s not up to standard and have to leave.

As some old local resident here (Sutton on Sea largest care home in Europe) said to my wife, “ It (Covid) has not reached here yet, so don’t need to wear one. 🙊

If your worrying about the Waitress not wearing a mask you should really consider asking to see if the kitchen staff / chefs are masked up before ordering.

Went to Tesco this morning.

The 'Drongo' immediately in front of me was approached by the 'Meeter and Greeter' who enquired about his absent mask.
"I want to in and buy one"! What!! Eh!!!

Where has this pillock been for the last ten days when all we've heard is that today is the day to wear them, NOT BUY THEM Rant over.

Don't think i want to eat anything that has been cooked / prepared out of my sight at the moment. unless i know the establishment very well.

Trouble is that the evidence supporting face coverings is flimsy at best... and the public at large is less than convinced.

Taken from an article in the Spectator - reviewing the limited number of trials
"Only one randomised trial included cloth masks.
This trial found ILI rates were 13 times higher in Vietnamese hospital workers allocated cloth masks compared to medical/surgical masks,

and over three times higher when compared to no masks.

It would appear that despite two decades of pandemic preparedness, there is considerable uncertainty as to the value of wearing masks. For instance, high rates of infection with cloth masks could be due to harms caused by cloth masks, or the benefits of medical masks.
The numerous systematic reviews that have been recently published all include the same evidence base, so unsurprisingly reach broadly the same conclusions. "

We went out today and didn't see a single person without a face covering although we didn't go into any restaurants just a couple of shops.

I went for an eyetest yesterday in Winsford. Specsavers had really good systems for everything (y)

The rest of the shopping centre (mostly indoor) wasn't so good

There were arrows on the floor, but nobody adhering to them, and masks? me and one other

Face coverings didn't become compulsory in shops until today so you can't really go by what happened yesterday! A lot of people would have waiting until today to use them.

The face covering rule didn’t start until today.

We are, (hopefully), heading to our base in France on 5th August.

As France has the simple rule, “in enclosed spaces, open to the public, masks are obligatory “, (even I can understand that), we decided to wear our masks, when appropriate, in order to get used to it. In Wales there is no obligation to wear them.

On our visit to Tesco, no social distancing, no one way system, no control of queues at the checkouts, I would estimate that less than 5% of customers were wearing masks.

In view of the low number of new cases and, indeed, deaths in Wales due to CV-19, I wonder what is the correct approach.

In the absence of any more precise scientific evidence and/or a vaccine we will continue to err on the side of caution.
