I would be interested to know how often Engine Oil Changes are made by regular motorhomers. Modern oils with all their claimed lifespan are generally available for us to use, but how often or what conditions determine the need to change more often.

Recommended oil change intervals on ours is 20000 miles, I changed the oil after 9000, so, annually for me too.
But, we bought a new Beetle in 2008 and had it serviced by VW at the recommended intervals ( 20000 miles)
We sold it at 85000 miles ( 4 service stamps in the book) and the whole car still ran as if it was new. Nothing went wrong, broke or wore out.

Our M/H is in for a small service today at our regular local garage, although it is a 2009 model, it has only covered 13K, but we are having the oil and filter done, tyres and brakes checked and the brake fluid changed.

I'm only averaging 6k per year and although I do my own servicing so considerably cheaper I do need 9 litres in mine so I'm not going to bin it just because it is 12 months old.
I did however obtain a load of oil filters very cheap so I will change the filter annually

Annually, in the spring,as part of the preparation for a new season,I do it myself so no real cost implications.

After the rebuild I changed the oil at 300mls but now I will change the oil if I get close to 10,000
I only have one vehicle the camper so this sort of mileage is realistic for my van

Motor Home I maintain annual oil and filter changes, I'm not sure that with modern fuels, the oil becomes as contaminated as it used to but, its a comparatively small price to pay for piece of mind. On the boat, I still change the oil and filter twice a year.

The handbook (& Fiat's website) says 30,000 miles or 2 years for my 3 litre.
It won't do the 30,000, so it looks like 2 years for me.

Fantastic replies, seems like annual is the most used guide, I am not selling my Hymer so I can state that I am a higher than average motorhome user, I generally knock up 20,000 km per year, however I change my Oil and filter every 10,000 kms so thats twice a year. I like to look after my engine and in return it serves me well, which appears so do all the other funsters who have replied. Thanks again, the one posting referred to Brake Fluid change, perhaps thats a question for the future.

I have completely changed the Brake Fluid on my van but that was after changing to slave cylinders
contamination was apparent in the system so pumped it through till new clean Fluid was throughout the system

brake fluid is hydroscopic as in it absorbs water over time. this causes problems from corrosion through to brake failure. you should change the fluid every couple of years for safety

Yes ,I normally do mine twice per year. Brake fluid they recommend every 2 years I believe but I'll be doing mine now as I am changing the rear wheel cylinders . Well I will be when they arrive !:D

My local garage tests the brake fluid for water content and contamination at every service, not sure how he does it but so far, we have only had to changed brake fluid on one of our vehicles.

I change oil and Filter every year and always use fully synthetic oil. Regardless of mileage. On my Benimar Fiat 2.8 maxi
