After spending all day cleaning, preparing and packing the motorhome it's finally ready. Then it starts raining grrr

It's our first time on the Plymouth to Santander ferry. The plan is to head towards Salamanca, after a stop at Torrelavega for food and fuel. Looks like it is hotter than here, usually we chase the sun but maybe this time we will looking for cooler weather. There again we do like it hot!

I am no Lenny or Tam but will probably post a few pictures on and off if only to create a record for us.

Have a great time and Motorhome looks great - hope you’re not parked outside on deck otherwise the sea salt will force another wash when you get there.
Have a great time

Me too, fingers crossed it’s not a rough crossing too. My first time in a boat outside the Mediterranean or Channel. Still at least I got all the green off the roof.

Have a great trip. Don't forget the trillions of flies waiting for you. This was us on only our first stop.

The fly cleaner from Lidl ( France, Spain, Italy) is excellent. At least your mirrors are black.

We arrived at cambrils today having come down through and over the central massif.
It more than a bit worm from Clermont-Ferrand down. 28, 30 this last few days.

There are a few bits about but compared to pre lockdowns we are thin on the ground.

I like Cambrils and my wife loves the churros in one of the bars there.

I like the beer in all of them(y)

It’s good to see a new trip thread, I’ve not seen you post your travels before (I think) so I hope you give us plenty of pictures and info as it will be nice to get a different perspective then the usual traveler’s on here (no disrespect implied or intended on their very good threads)…

Hope you have a great time…😎

Thanks, I always read the other’s posts avidly so thought I’d have a go myself.

We have spent half a day cleaning bugs off. Unfortunately the bug spray didnt work for us - soap, water and elbow grease....

Sometimes we wish we was at home swimming in the pool. 😁
🤔 It's warm here in our little tin box. 😜😎 Bob.

Same here in Murcia Bob, I had 7 hours yesterday searching shade while Judith was in A&E at Cartagena....just taken Motorhome back home and swapped it for our car..Judith is having surgery to repair her broken wrist, now in Molina del Segura hospital, private room, air conditioning, restaurant across the road....no pool though..😄👍

We've made it to Spain.

The ferry crossing was quite lively going round the cost of Brittany, but it settled overnight and very calm during the day. Spent some time whale watching, I say watching but we didn't see any. It seems every time we arrived they had just seen some, sounds a bit Loch Ness Monster to me.

Had our passports checked on disembarking, but nothing else. The police just kept waving us through. I think we were off the boat in about ten minutes, the whole thing was very slick. Beautiful sunny day so had a complete change of heart and headed to Santillina del Mar. En route we stopped at a supermarket and also bought fuel (€1.70 with the 20c discount). We are at the new municipal site, €12 and a 3 minute walk into town, although I think they are still building the toilets. For those who haven't been, it is a beautiful town dating back to the C15th and a bit of a gastronomic destination. It makes an ideal stop the night before for Santander as it's only about 30 miles. Pictures below if I work it out properly....

We have been there. There is a torture museum which I recall made me feel sick.

They have some weird way of pouring cider there as well I think.

We are arrive in Salamanca yesterday and it was very hot, around 35C dropping to 20C at night. Not so hot today, although I am sure in the low 30s still. For us it was a long drive, around 230 miles. We stopped off in Simancas at a nice aire and went for a walk, maybe should have stayed but we pushed on.

Arriving at the campsite caused chaos when we filled up with the non potable water and had to drain the tank, before filling again. Lots of knowing head shaking form wise bystanders, but we were grateful they pointed it out to us. A bit embarrassing when one kind chap asked if we were new to motorhioming and perhaps this was our first van. Sadly not, we were just tired and a bit too casual.

Cycled into Salamanca today along a "cycle route' which we managed to lose quite a few times. In all it was nearly 8 miles to get there and less than 4 to get home! Salamanca is a lovely city, there were weddings and university graduations on today so it had a real buzz to it. The Spanish dress with such style and class, I guess for the celebrations. Nonetheless I can't see us Brits looking so cultured at similar events. The other thing we love about Spain is the cost of eating. We had two coffees with a roll containing scrambled egg and chorizo for €5, it makes it almost cheaper to eat out than cook. Off to the campsite restaurant tonight then....

Had a slightly later start than planned after the burglar alarm to the reception woke us when it went off in the middle of the night.

We are gradually working our way towards Cadiz, and decided to only drive for a couple of hours. We headed to the Parque Nacional de Monfrague. It turned out to be a great decision as the weather was cloudy and not as hot. Ideal for a short hike in the hills and a bit of bird spotting. Apart from the bird life, (for those who care vultures, eagles, and the azure winged magpie among others) the scenery was spectacular and there were wild flowers of all colours. It made a great change from old buildings.

Currently at a cheap site €10 in the back and beyond between Placensia and Cáceres. Tomorrow back to old buildings when we see if we can get into the aire at Merida.

Yesterday we stopped at the aire in Merida after a lovely drive through open countryside. This is a town of contradictions. In many ways it is slightly tired, but the Roman ruins are outstanding.

The theatre left us speechless we had to just sit and stare, better than anything in Rome. Better next to no other tourists. They have so few British tourists we were something of a curiosity. If you like your history it is a must see place.
