Now that the Wok on the roof works, can anyone give some more advice.

Greetings All,

After a fruitless near year on, I've finally got the Satellite system to work.

It produced over 200 signals this morning and I'm not complaining but it
occurred to me that I know absolutely NOTHING about how to get the best
out of what I've got.

There's an Oyster dish on the roof, I'm guessing at 80cms with an auto up/down
by pressing one button on the onboard receiver sat in the wardrobe. That in turn
sends "Stuff" (Tech word) to an Avtex 18.5" TV.

The dish seeks out the Astra 2 Sat and finds it. I am aware that there are other Sats.
out there there the system will find if I seek them out on the TV but that's as far as
my knowledge goes.

I do know that when we go South we will lose the signal the further down we go but
I'm after some information as to how to stop the system becoming a large paperweight.

Please don't suggest buying a firestick as I've got enough on my hands sussing out
this piece of Tech I've just got to work. Given time (and I suppose money,) I'll be back later
to improve my knowledge, but, for the moment, KIS for this Stupid.

I suppose what I'm asking is for info on what is where up in the Sky and how to get it.

As ever, thanks to all those prepared to help.

Hi.
Snap. But one thing i did pick up while out and about with our first Free standing Tripod and dish thingy. Wondered why the chap just up from us on a site had a picture................... Signal blocked by trees whatever ? I think he could have been a descendent of " Marconi " He had..................... SNEAKED his dish through the hedge, led the cable back to his c/van................................... BLIGHTER !!.
So. If you are in the uk and cannot get a signal because of trees, buy a cheapy dish and uncles your bob.
We have a picture taken at Parc Natura mid- Pyrenees of it set up next to our c/van WAY back ago.

Up a bit, left a bit... (y)

We lose Asta 2 on our 85cm Oyster dish in southern France.

We then switch to Astra 1 which has some English-speaking programmes, mainly news. F1 motorsport is available in German. Astra 1 is pre-programmed into the Oyster.

Somewhere in the sky is Sky! With a firestick and a Now tv subscription you can watch as much sport as you want! A lot less hassle setting up.

You're in Cornwall, you have a motorhome, why on earth would you want to sit in it and watch all that crap on a TV.

By the way I'm married to a Falmouth Lass, our evenings are spent chatting over dinner with a glass of vino, Spotify provides the back ground music, perfect.

Thank you for your informative response.
Whatever happened to Rule 1?

The Orange spot beam footprint using an 80cm dish is pretty accurate from my experience with a 85cm dish.

So, coverage is most of France, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland and about 60% Germany.

Bugger.

I was hoping to while away my time on the Green Coast of Spain doing no more than the exercise that is watching TV.

Emmit I've only just seen this thread and by the looks of things "most" of the responses have been helpful to your original question.
Sounds like you've pretty much got the information you require however if you do need any further advice or information regarding the system and what it can do then please feel free to give us a call.
We are Oyster Sat-Tech and we are the UK importers as well as a wholly owned subsidiary of the manufacturers Ten-Haaft.
I am the senior technician for the company and have over 14 years experience with the systems so if you need any anything at all please feel free to contact me on our office number 01858575928 and I'll do my best to assist.

When I'm in the south of France or Spain I retune to Intelsat and connect an Icecrypt decoder which gives me the main 5 UK channels and Sky News.
I did a quick search and it looks like Icecrypt have closed?
Also, would that mean I would have to deconnect my current TNT box to connect the Icecrypt one or is there just a card I could transfer from the Icecrypt to the TNT box?

You may be able to get one on Ebay. If not I believe that Jacksons satellites might have an equivalent. You would need to change over boxes when you want to use it. I just connect mine into my Avtex tv.

Why do you need Spotify? Can’t you sing to her
