I remember going to a party and returning in the same 2CV some years ago. The owner was an Arts Teacher. There was 5 in the car and on the way it rained and everything steamed up. Open the windows the driver said. How I said no handle. Push the bottom half up and it will stay up. It did not and my left arm got soaked as well as my leg because the front flaps leaked. On the way back I sat in the rear. Must uncomfortable thing I have ever sat on. The rear seat was a piece on canvas between 2 poles like a deck chair. It was not help that the jack 8n the boot was under my backside.

Upturned corrugated pram.

Happy memories of my 2CV. I used to tell passengers I was putting the air con on as I opened the flaps below the screen

Some years ago when we lived in the Smoke we were circumnavigating the Victoria Memorial outside Buck House heading back sarf of the river when a kamikaze pigeon did a head-on attack into the grill of our 2CV.

A flurry of feathers through the heating vents made the kids think it was snowing inside! Clearing the mess out the next day wasn’t so much fun though!

They missed “ No Power “
Hi.
On certain Fords at the time,if it rained, you could have POWER or Windscreen wipers...... But NOT both at the same time..... Happy days....

Same on the Morris but a least they had a manual knob which you could use as override, at least on the J3 van.

I saw my neighbour’s 2CV after a combined 60mph head on collision, It was a special edition Charleston I think, looked like it had fallen out of a spaceship and landed nose first, totally and utterly demolished!, the neighbour walked away because she was probably pissed as usual and was quite relaxed about which side of the road she drove on. It was 18 months old and was written off, she hit an old fashioned mini, not the strongest vehicle to be in a head on collision in, as I know to my cost, and the mini still had 4 wheels on the road although it too was pretty badly mangled.

My philosophy has always been to drive a car to it’s limits and my skill level and make sure to stay on MY side of the road!!

Cheers!

Ahhh yes, the Ford Prefect.
The faster you went, the less you could see.

When stationary, the wipers would be going back and forth at the 'monsoon' setting.
Above 30mph the wipers would be in the 'scotch mist' setting.
Above 40mph (if you dared) they would almost stop entirely!
All irrespective of the actual level of rain.

My brother an I had one for a while, it cost us 2 bottles of whisky to buy off a neighbour, there was more filler and fibreglass in the body than actual metal, but it got us around until it caught fire in a pub car park!

I bough a 2CV for my then girlfriend to learn to drive in
I parked it outside my house.
It was a bit windy that night (15th October 1987)
My entire double glazed bedroom window, frame and all, was sucked out of the wall of the house and landed like a guillotine in front of the windscreen of the 2CV.

Amazingly no glass was broken!
Next morning we were able to lift the entire window frame out of the car and refit it into the hole.
The 2CV however was virtually cut in half and a total right off.
35 years later, the now wife, has never learnt to drive!

We had a ‘sort of’ 2 CV. Lomax 2-3
Great fun went to Scotland & France-the French loved it and all round England, built it ourselves in a frame tent in the back garden!

I used to own a 1963 6volt VW Beetle 1200. In South Africa it was fine; little rain, seldom ventured out in the dark. In the Uk, it was a choice of either the lights or the wipers. Could get away with lights and indicators if you kept revs up.
But 380,000 miles and only replacements were tyres, brakes, wipers, points (remember them?) air and oil filters. Air-cooled so no radiator. When I sold it in about 2002 you still had to open a window slightly to shut the door properly, it was so airtight. Happy days!

The title was fantastic. Made me laugh. Thanks.
