Just looking
Off today.
On home EHU all night but not really necessary since it's going to be fine and the solar panels will cope but I like to start a trip with 100%  SOC.
12v Fridge/Freezer packed yesterday, dry food this morning.
Plan was to be away by 0800 but waiting for a delivery which should have arrived yesterday.
Got away at 11.05.

First stop East Riddlestone Hall NT. About 96 miles.

Arrived at 13.15, 135 minutes for 96 miles!!!!!!
Hold up was congestion going past Middlesbrough on the A19. My idea was to avoid motorways where possible partly cos they're boring and partly cos of the nutters on motorways and partly so we get scenic route.
The hall is worth the 90 minutes we spent there.
Vid of East Riddleston Hall kitchen.

Next just a short journey to our site for the night.
Screenshot_20250628-062423.webp Lower heights farm ccc cs.
Lovely quiet site, 2 caravans, a tent and our campervan.

Beautiful countryside.
Will simply relax the rest of the day.
Off tomorrow westward.

Lovely peaceful site, just £15 a night, grass no EHU.
Toilets are clean, 1 shower but coin operated.
Cassette disposal, fresh water and waste bins.
Not a lot to do unless you drive to places but on a ☀️ day it's best to just chill out.
Already had a couple of liquid black gold.

Arrived at 10.30, 1 hour for 22 miles!!!
Was through a few villages and a couple miles on the M65.
Having an hour in the park and gardens then a look through the 🏠.
Will post pics later.

Had our lunch in the NT car park.
Simple salad in a bowl dressed with Avocado oil.
Leaving for next site soon.

Was going to get the bus to Rufford Old Hall but turns out it's shut on Wednesday and Thursday each week.
That'll teach me to check beforehand.
All is not lost, may visit it when we leave for Wales on Friday

Do you have your stops planned for North Wales? Please share.
If you are just "winging it" I hope you are aware that Wales is very unaccommodating for any motorhome/vehicle over 2 meters tall.

We’ve just returned from 3 weeks in Wales, mixture of wild camping and motorhome stopover sites (not campsites) in a Hymer A class which is the best part of 3m high. Never had a single problem anywhere. Where possible we kept off major roads and took as many little back roads as we could, ensuring, of course, that we didn’t hold anybody up.

Next stop Mold, Bryn Y Ffynnon; a farm with just a field at £5 a night.
Then Caernarvon, CWM Rhyddalt farm at £25 a night; most expensive of our trip.
Then Colton hill farm Shrewsbury, £10 a night.
And some more on way back to North east.
Along the way we will visit Bodnant gardens, Caernarvon castle, Powis castle and more on the way back.
Any suggestions welcome.
My van is 2.5 high, will watch out and not be💤 at the wheel.

Mold isn't too far from the Pontcysllte Aqueduct - world heritage site - . Plenty of parking, but it's a few years now since I was there. And Llangollen too if you have time.

Arrived at 15.45, good route along the A59,M6,A582 then back on the A59.
No congestion, so why did it take so long.
Turns out my leaving soon doesn't agree with my wife's leaving soon, so as in post #8 I thought we were leaving Gawthorpe at 14.00 turned out not to be the case

Will have a look on Google.
What's at Llangollen?

What's at Llangollen?
Steam train (heritage line) to Corwen - about 15 miles.
Canal boat trips - horse drawn.
Fabulous views.
Motor museum
Overall - just a lovely place to see. Motorhomes can park there but again it's a few years since I did.

Moel Famau near Mold is a good walk to stretch your legs if you're up to it.
Plus great views from the top
Only there 1 night but yes we are up for good walks.

After Shrewsbury we are at Ty Mawr ccc cs near Welshampton.
On the way we intended to make a minor detour to visit Chirk castle so we could maybe visit the Aqueduct at same time.

Up bright and early at 08.30😆.
Had tomatoes and basil on toast for breakfast.
Brought a glut of tomatoes from home and our own basil. Will get through them in another few days.
Plan today is a walk down to Bursciugh then back along the canal.
No we can't walk on water🤔.

Chirk has anaquaduct that's almost as big as the other one - and it runs alongside another viaduct for the railway. Just round the corner from Chirk Castle. Worth a quick peek.

Will do if we have time.
At the moment we are definitely going to visit Chirk castle.

Walked down to Burscough along the canal towpath, had a good goosy gander round town and did some shopping in Tesco's.
Main thing we needed was Avocado oil, but as usual came away with too much.
We were weighed 👇 walking back to the van.
Glorious day here, just relaxing for the rest of the day in the 🌞 but got our awning⛱️ out.

Mold has a great Saturday street market. Lived there for many years. Powys Castle is another great stop, we also lived the outskirts of Welshpool with a view of the castle. Close to the castle is Charlie’s and the outdoor store, plenty of easy parking and good for a meal.

Saturday we on our way to Caernarvon and visiting Bodnant gardens on the way (any better NT or Cadw on that route?) so we won't have time for the Mold market.
Powis castle we are definitely visiting on our way to Shrewsbury.
Will look out for Charlie's thank's.

Bit late posting but up early to get away because of change of plan.
Was going to visit Rufford bold hall NT just 2 miles up the road from Swallow house ccc cs then off to Mold but decided to get majority of the journey out of the way early on so headed for Erdigg hall NT near Wrexham.
But first some pics of last night at Swallow house.
Peacock, Peahen and Mother goose.
