Hi, have just cleaned my internal water tank after a few weeks laid up. Since refilling with fresh water, and vigorously shaking the submersible pump, no water arrives via any tap. The pump appears to be working - it makes a noise and vibrates when any tap is opened, but no water arrives! Can the pump be a goner even though it is turning?

Check your dump valve hasn’t opened, we have had a couple of cold nights this week.
Turn your tap on and look under the Motorhome, if there is water running out your dump valve is open.

Check the pipe is attached to pump. The pump is working but if the pipe is not attached then the water has nowhere to go. Simple fix.

Fill up tank and check no water is running out under the van. Open the tap/ shower furthest away from the tank and clear any airlocks, it takes a while. This should do the trick. The boiler takes a while to fill up.

You could remove the hose from the pump then run the pump to see if there is any flow, another possibility is that the pump impeller is loose on the shaft

Ignore the moaners, there's always one...
To answer your question, if the impeller shaft inside the submersible pump has snapped, then the motor will be making a noise but not pumping any water. It happens on submersible pumps, more usually if they get frozen, but I assume that's not a possibility in the last few weeks.

More likely it's an air lock inside the pump, or maybe somewhere in the hose lines. Can you check the pump by taking it out and putting it in a bucket of water? If you apply 12V power, you should get a fountain of water at least a couple of feet high.

Yes, another one never to be seen again.
Thank to everyone who replied, and no, I’m not a ‘five minute wonder’! The reality is that I am away in France, not at home, and couldn’t initially locate any immediately available spare parts. As it turns out, the original pump was in fact kaput - it sounded as tho it was working, but in practice it wasn’t! Long story short - sourced a replacement pump this afternoon and fitted it this evening. Problem solved, water flowing in all taps - back on the road as a Happy Camper!

Thank you for your response. I think you’re correct that there was a problem with the shaft. As noted below, have now sourced and fitted a replacement pump and happy to report all ok now.

There is a Funster membership number, so deffo a member. Maybe didn't expect replies so quickly 😉
You’re not wrong! Also, as you can see below, was trying to sort a problem which arose a long way from home and abroad, where spares aren’t always as quick and easy to source as at home. Happily all now sorted via a replacement pump.

Thanks daveandsan - turns out the problem was a faulty pump - now replaced and all good.

Thanks Robby, read all the replies, just not as soon as you might have thought!! Turns out it was a faulty pump - now replaced and all back to normal.

You are a member and you can read most of the forum. But in order to make any more posts and have access to all of the forum you will need to become a subscriber. IMHO it will be the best £20 you will spend on your motorhome. The advice I get on here saves me a lot more than that each year.
