But, why do it in a coach ? I'd rather do it on a motorbike, I picked my new R Nine T bike up in Glasgow and had the most fantastic ride home to Cromarty 190 miles in the day. Weather was superb.

When I was in the TA many moons ago we were billeted in a wooden hut somewhere in Northumberland and next door was a jock regimental band who were practising every hour that God sent,one Piper was right outside my window playing the same piece over and over, I was studying for a trade test and it was driving me bonkers so I know exactly what you mean Jim

What do you think of your bike? I have a Honda CTX1300 which is fabulous but at nearly 340Kg rather heavy for someone of my age (63).

I’m thinking of changing it for something lighter but still want shaft drive, so a bike like yours might fit the bill.

If you go in late January @Jim the weather's too cold for the bagpipe and most of them tend to go into hibernation. Unfortunately, like most things, a few hardy specimens brave the arctic conditions, and the lesser know drone-pipe sometimes visits highly populated areas.

We once saw a threesome, fully clad in traditional tartan at Christmas, atop of the Austrian alps while playing the pipes ... then skiing down while still playing .. we loved it.

I'm totally tone deaf but have always wanted to play an instrument .. perhaps the pipes would suit me and I could practice at SoS.
