I’m going to change my Moho tyres soon,as the existing Michelin Agilis are 6 years old and the rears are cracking in the sidewalls.

Has anyone got experience of Nexen tyres? Their Roadian CT8,or CTX may be suitable????

Im also looking at Conti VanContact 4 Seasons and Toyo Van Observe.

Van use is low mileage, mainly UK and France,no snow. Front axle 1850, rear axle 2120. 215/75 R 16.

Advice and comments welcome please. Thanks.

Recently fitted Goodyear’s to mine (but 15”) and can’t fault them. So much better than the Michelins even in monsoon weather on Friday, when we went through floods and then on to a very wet grass camping spot. Not a single wheel spin. Very very impressed. Even the wife noticed the softer ride.

bigtree swapped to them recently.
I swapped to Hankook Lantra in your size and rating on tyre went up 113 to 116.
Pleased with them so far.

Hadn’t considered Goodyear. I’ll take a look,thanks.

Our local tyre place quoted me for maxxis tyres which they said were camper tyre but when I researched are van tyres.
I had van ones on our last MH they were fine I'm just dithering between agilis camper tyres or van tyres at half the price they can't be that different surely

I can't get camper tyres in my tyre size so have to have van tyres. The originals were continental van contact and so I replaced like for like

Hi

Just fitted a set to my MH 225/75/R16 Load Ratting 120/121. big difference over Michelin Camper Cp better in the wet and a lot cheaper got the 4 for £380

I’ve gone off Agilis as several reports on here about cracking in tread and in sidewalls. Some experience poor grip, but I’ve not had that problem.

I think the point about so called camper tyres is that they have extra strength in the sidewalls and are therefore more suited to mohos being parked up for longish periods which can deform some tyres apparently. We are fair weather motorhomers and don’t use the van in December,January or February (do I hear cries of boo/hiss from the rusty tufty’s) so I take the van out for a run every four weeks in the winter to keep everything going, including the tyres.

I had Nexen tyres fitted to several of our vehicles. The local tyre bloke told me he thought they were owned by Michelin, whether that’s true or not I don’t know but, they are a decent tyre.

A set of what the Goodyear in the previous post or nexxen?

I notice many people commenting on the softer ride when fitting new tyres, indeed I noticed the same when fitting new Agilis after our Vancouver tyres were excessively cracked. Is there a school of thought the says old tyres may “harden” after some years of use?

If you want a hard ride and poor grip by the Camper tyres, if you want a comfortable ride & tyres with grip buy the Van tyres.

I went for Michelin cross climates A lot better ride and quieter than the campers.I am on wet grass today. Will let you know how i get on when we decide to move. 😁

I just changed from Michelin Agilis Alpin to Nexen Roadian CT8, not been anywhere to notice if they are better. I went for them due to a recommendation on here plus the ratings, the price was also very good via Camskill tyres compared to other companies. My Michelins also suffered cracking early on,so will be interested to see how these fare. I never used the van in the winter so decided to go for a summer tyre, the blocks on the front tyres were ripping up a bit on the Michelins. Might have been my driving but it was mainly used in Europe so might have been the hot roads.

So camper tyres are supposed to be better if the vehicle is left to stand for a long time. But people still complain about cracked sidewalls. So what's the point in camper tyres? Seems like a marketing angle to charge you more for a niche product that's actually no better (and maybe worse) than the regular brand.

That’s interesting, thanks. We’re you able to get any info from Nexen about tyre pressures? I emailed them this morning, giving them info re axle weights etc.,but haven’t had a reply yet......well it was only about 4 hours ago!

I've used Nexxen & Maxxis excellent with no problems.

Nexxen is a standalone Korean company on par with the other 2,Kumho & Hankook.

The manufacturers would have you believe that camper tyres are better/safer than van tyres because they are designed to take heavy weight continually. Most, but not all, normal vans carry quite light loads e.g. white van man delivering for Amazon etc.

But I’m sure if you are the owner of a van that’s regularly/continuously fully loaded, the guy at the tyre fitters doesn’t offer you camper tyres!!!!!

Agreed. I'm actually of the opinion that the camper market is far smaller than the 'white van man' market, so there's probably far less competition and a lot less spent on R&D. I wouldn't be surprised if the 'commodity' van tyres are actually better than the 'specialist' camper tyres in every way.

, they are a decent tyre.
Hi.
Nexen.. Had them on 3 four b' fours
,came as standard kit. Good tyre, never a problem

They were blown up to the pressure recommended by Frankia.

Didn’t get on with Nexen at all. Had them fitted on my Hi lux but found them terrible!!!
Had them taken off after a couple of thousand miles and fitted Hankooks a total transformation.

Another vote for Hankook, fitted to my car and camper, not an issue, road noise much reduced.

I fitted Hankook's on my last van, I reckon the Toyo's I've put on this van are much better.

Do you recall the name/type of the Goodyear tyres?

I just replaced the Michelin Agilis Camping tyres on my van last week. They were only a year old and had only done 11k miles, so not worn or brittle. They just rode terribly. Made everything shake violently on even small road imperfections. I paid £650 for a set of Continental VanContact 4Season. I'm using the Continental handbook for reference to give me suitable pressures, so I can run 51psi front and 54psi rear. The ride is far better. It was well worth the money as I'm not arriving at my destination feeling like I've been in a cement mixer.
