New Zealand or Bust

Left Abel Tasman coast and headed West through lovely scenery, invested in a tin of Silicon spray and that has worked wonders on the squeaky shed, the stopped half was at Murchison on another NZMCA camp spot and then moved on this morning to the longest suspension bridge in NZ over the Buller river,

Jen said (I don’t know why I do these things 😄) she did decline the zip wire back though,

Cracking drive today all on SH6 to Punakaiki on the west coast, need to visit Pancake rocks but will check the tides first as the blow holes need a high tide apparently,

Not a bad view for a £20 campsite 👍

I mentioned the “zip wire” earlier but couldn’t get the pic to load so will try again,

It looked pretty tame to be fair but as we paid paid for the bridge we wanted to get our money’s worth 😄

Just been out to pancake rocks as it was on our route for a walk, didn’t see any blow hole action but it was past high tide.

The native wildlife are very friendly 😏 this South Island Robin came that close that I couldn’t frame it at one point.

From what i am seeing and reading NZ has gone back to the top of the list of places to go and look properly, not flying visit's to citys as we did on cruises.
We don't like burgers and certainly not enough to queue in lines like that.
But first, some unfinished business in a another country.

I did a Bungy Jump in Cairns in the early 90s. I was led to believe the jump first started with A J Hackett in Aussy, so i thought i would give it a Google.

David Kirke
The man who performed the world's first ever modern-day bungee jump, while wearing a top hat and tails and holding a bottle of champagne, has died aged 78. David Kirke, one of the pioneers of the Dangerous Sports Club at Oxford University, jumped off Clifton Suspension Bridge on 1 April 1979.

Lifes an education eh.

We were at Queenstown a couple of days ago, did the Skyline, Time Tripper and a pie from Fergbaker and other than that, we were not impressed with it.
We thought Queenstown was a bit cheesy, very much touristville. But the drives getting there and around it were stunning.

We drove the steep and hairpined road up the "The Remarkables" to get some great views of the Queenstown area, and watch the aircraft flying below and landing at Queenstown airport.

When you visit Christchurch, then the Cardboard Cathedral in Christchurch is an interesting building to have a look around.

When the Cathedral in the centre of Christchurch was severely damaged in the 2011 earthquake, it was evident that it would be some years to raise the funds to restore it, so a temporary place of worship was called for, and a cheap and quick to build solution was designed by the Japanese architect Shigeru Ban who is well known for his designs of cheap quick to build cardboard buildings for disaster areas.
The church gets its nickname from the use of over 90 large cardboard tubes for its walls and roof, as well as much of the furniture within the Cathedral.
