New van MPG increasing with miles

Just done 500 miles pretty much on the motorway and you can see the adaptive cruise control killing how motorways should work. They just pick a lane and sit there. Gap in front of them, but auto slowing down so those in their inner lane are now blocked.

But at least they can keep up with their emails, and Facebook

The problem is that now with all this 'green' shit they put on the diesel engines means that running on idle buggers up the filtration system resulting in expensive trips to the dealer. I always switch the stop/start off on the Jag, but it is a petrol engine so no problem. On the van, I just let it do what it wants.
Stop start, spawn of the devil either petrol or diesel.
Modern vehicles are so over the top nowadays. Whilst utubing I found out 5 things my car does I didn’t even know about. I’ll probably never use them.
My son has an 30 year old Dodge V6 pickup in the USA and constantly gets asked do you wanna sell it ? They can fix them easily.

I've used stop start for the past 150 k miles on our last two cars with no problems. It saves fuel and pollutes less especially in heavy traffic. I don't see any problem with it . Near us in Malton they actually have signs at the traffic lights asking drivers to switch off their engine when waiting presumably for those without stop start.

I agree, my car is an ev, but obviously the van is diesel, the stop start works perfectly and sitting at traffic lights instead of vibrating and burning money, it is silent and peaceful, as soon as I ease off the brake it starts, the fuel consumption in traffic used to plunge, whereas this makes little difference.

I see not using stop start in cities a bit like spitting out of the window you're inflicting your unnecessary pollution on people outside

Even worse, are the parents picking up their little darlings from school 1/2 mile from home, but have to get outside the school 20 minutes early to get a space and then sit there idling for 30 minutes while they smoke with their windows open!
