I worked out that there was a far better position for the switch than relying on the bonnet to just push it down. The Laika does not have anything that could possibly be used so I took the catch off and worked out how it could be done with just one simple hole. The alarm switch is operated when the bonnet is released because the part that operates the switch is part of the bonnet release.

Its a bit of a fiddle getting the switch in place just watch your fingers.

You could of pushed the boat out and replaced that rusty old switch lol

Horrible things pin switches

My alarm pin switch on my bonnet was as bad as that. Couldn't find an exact replacement so took it apart and cleaned it up with wd40 and now as good as new.

ACF50 is the spray to keep things like that working !

Don't think any switching device lasts that long in a hostile engine environment. Had to disable (short circuit) my vanbitz bonnet reed switch after a few years as the alarm kept triggering in the early morning.

We use fully waterproof vibration proof tilt switches. If we used a reed switch on yours it must have been fitted a long time ago.

You should have contacted us and we could have supplied a replacement

Yes it was fitted about 2004 so was a reed switch. Good to know the engine bonnet reed switch has since been replaced by something more reliable.

I did have a few problems with the reed switches on the hab side and contacted you and they were replaced. I wasn't particularly worried about the bonnet switch, so didn't pursue it. As usual, impeccable aftersales service from vanbitz :D

I have a new one somewhere. Must give it a dose of WD40 or will never get it off. It works very well. Someone asked me how to do this on an Autotrail where the bonnet sensor had sunk into the insulation. Just hope he finds this post as cannot find his.
