Hi One and All
I’ve been talking to my neighbour as he is looking for a MH and as he has no internet I’ve been looking around for a cheap MH for him.
I found two one was £6000 petrol and the other was £5000 diesel; this is the ball park figure they can afford. Having said that he totally dismissed the petrol one which I thought was a better bargain as was fully MOT’d and serviced and a fresh Hab check and was more up together, they were both 3.5ton so that was not a problem.
When I asked why he had dismissed the petrol one out of hand, his reply was BP is coming out with a new fuel next year which will make diesel’s environmentally friendly so MPG was an issue as he stated that diesel will be more economical than petrol especially when this new fuel comes out in 2020.

Now I’ve searched BP and the big companies and can’t find anything about a new fuel, so I thought I would ask the Oracle.

I said to him even if there was a new fuel it will obviously be more expensive, and also the government is hell bent on getting diesels off the road so I would of thought road tax will go up for diesels, that is why I thought he was missing a bit of a trick dismissing the petrol vehicle.
So has anyone else heard of this new fuel or is it just one of the many rumors going around that you hear about.
Best Wishes Tony

"Cleaner" diesel has been on the cards for years, But no one has yet produced any as far as I am aware. Diesel, per-se, is about as clean as it can be and with ad-blu and particulate filters has gone about as far as is (currently) technically possible. It has always been the case that in terms of economy and more miles per gallon the Diesel is actually more efficient that Petrol. For the foreseeable future will remain the first line in terms of the needs of Freight Transport. Being more efficient in terms of Tons/Mile. (the most efficient Ton/Mile remains Sea transport of course) Maybe we could dig up the MI?. and add water?.:D2 And before the "electric" fans start, yes we know that the "future" is electric. But not in my lifetime, despite being harangued by spoiled girls!.

Have you ever seen your neighbour rolling any greenery and smoking it with a smile on his face ?
Just asking.......

At that price point it's going to be a very old Motorhome so condition is everything particularly with regards to damp.
A diesel of that age will be a slow old tub petrol will perform better and have much lower emissions.

Even if there was a new super fuel on the horizon probably won't be able to use it in older vehicles.

There is a shipping company is that is trialing an emulsion of fuel oil and water instead of heavy fuel oil. I don't think things are going too well with it right now. Maybe that?

If you are interested here is a link to the petrol MH on Facebook which I found for him, it was £6500 not the £6000 I first posted.

old diesels can run on virtually any oil, even old chip oil

I followed a mobile fish and chip van tonight on the way home, I could smell the fish and chips all the way and the van was billowing black smoke. 07 plate Renault I think.
I did speculate how he contained the hot oil when driving then realised he must have a drain plumbed in to the fuel system ?

Nowt wrong with biodiesel, I ran on it for years with old Mercs and VWs. These newer drive by wire diesel engines do not like it up em though, especially in winter. I will not be changing my heavy oil burners to a battery powered family sized mobility scooter even if they ban diesel. Those things are all smoke and mirrors with a drop of snake oil added, all to appease the greens.
