We have a food grade hose, flat, on a cassette, that you only need to inside as far as you want. Works well. Recommended by someone on here, mail order. I will try and find details.

It might be a Brunner hose

Every flat hose that I have had has split in multiple places. As others have said, they are also a complete pain to get back on the reel

Bought a quality one 7 years ago, still as good as the day I bought it. (y)

Don't take up a lot of space and is easier to roll up without a reel. 20 metres with the two joined together.

weve got about 15 foot of layflat which rolls up on its connector takes up no room

We have used a “lay flat hose” now for over six years. I took it off the reel and simply roll it around the fitting on one end. An elastic band around the roll stops it falling apart.

In six years the only split I have had was at one of the connectors. I cut three inches off and remade the joint, no problem.

However, at home, I simply use my garden hose to fill the rank. Over thirty years use with no ill effects. We do sterilise the tank, usually three times a year.

Are you sure? It means you will have to unroll the whole thing to use, then roll back up again.
Mine you don't? Lost the box but it's a yellow reel and blue triple hose? 🤔 Just read other posts and I'm pretty sure it's a Brunner?

I'm curious on this - the Brunner website says :

The flat strong hose need not be unwound fully to be used and comprises of a triple chamber system. You can simply pull a metre off and it will work just as well!

I don't understand how that works - if it's flat and wound, how on earth does the water get down the hose without expanding?

Because mine is not completely flat, it's 3 inline small bore flattish pipes, fed from a single connector. This allows water to pass through it while still coiled up

Yes but your filling it with good Welsh water, I believe there have been no ill effects from filling mine from the garden tap/pipe
Others may believe differently :Eeek:

Bought ours from here.
Bought a ten metre and cut it in two, one half 6.5 metres leaving 3.5 metres which normally is long enough and shorter to roll up. Don't bother with a reel to roll them on, more hassle than it's worth. Join the two halves together if needed.

That looks like the one I have although bought from a different supplier. And like you I've also cut it into a short and long bit! :)

We got bought for us a Hozelock Pico hose. Just a bit bigger than my hand, and about 100mm deep so nice and compact. Reels up and 10m long. Gave the spray hose away.

What is the actual statistics of the ill effects of using a non food grade hose? We have used normal hoses for year-end cant say ive noticed any ill effects

Got rid of all our hoses especially the lay flat because, when rewinding ALL water droplets must be out if the pipe .
Otherwise there is a potential for the hose to be stored " wet" and that on the inside of the hose walls is a definite breeding ground for bacteria and possibly legionella.
Only now use a big sterilised watering can to fill a fully cleansed and sterilised water tank.

I'm wondering if its just...an old lady once said to me ...You've got money to burn when the fires going out. ;) Until its proved a garden hose would reduce my life significantly I wont be looking to buy a food grade one.

30m food grade from Amazon, cut into three 10m lengths, Hozelock ends and couplers. Winner.
