I need some advice on my Oyster satellite system and after doing a bit of research it certainly appears, the guys at Oystertech are both friendly and very knowledgeable, I could pass by their workplace on route home from our hols, does anyone know if you have to book in advance.

Hi Andy, just joined and I'm flitting around this site all over the place, dont know where to look, what to do, how to view posts, where they go, etc, etc, I'll get the hang of it at some point, will give them a ring, thanks for replying

Excellent, bet you where pleased, I'm hoping they can sort mine out, didn't want to spend a fortune on something we wont use that often, but it would be great to have working again, thanks for your feedback

Mine was a old system and was told by 2 dealers it was obsolete and bin it. Antony sorted it for 150 pounds which included a update, a new remote and all new wires (y) (y) (y)

How old was your system, if you dont mind me asking, mine was fitted on the van when new 2006, someone had said the command unit, (I think they call it), may be to old to have an update, the box is a silver colour on mine, cannot see anything else to describe it

Ok, firstly many thanks AndyPK for the tag.

Right kingoftheroad you have an Oyster Digital S6 system as was previously pretty much confirmed.
What seems to be the issue? Is there a mechanical/electrical fault or is it just not locating satellites or receiving the channels you think it should?

Hi
Thanks for getting in touch, correct, it doesn't lock onto the satellites, just goes round and round, haven't used it for a few years now.
We used to have Sky back then and the Sky box plugged into it. However, we dont subscribe to Sky anymore and the S6, as you call it, connects to a monitor that slides out of the top cupboard.

Hi, right well that should be a nice easy one then. Most likely is that the transponder frequencies that the system uses to find the satellite are out of date and the system requires an update although I can't be 100% sure obviously.
The best thing to do would be to give me a call when you are with the system on 01858575928 and I can basically talk you through a cheat to get it working to verify the issue. At that point, if it works, it's then up you whether you'd prefer to send the box in for a full update (cost of £81 inc VAT and carriage back) or keep it on the setting I use to test it which will work but restricts the full functionality of the receiver.

I just had my system removed and binned. I could have had it repaired under warranty but couldnt see the point of lugging such a seemingly outdated bit of kit around. I just stream although i do still have an aerial too, if I were to be somewhere with no data service, so be it, its only telly.

Hi Anthony
Great, it will be good to have it working and will go with the full update please.
Is the full update a long process, we are arriving back in the UK this Sunday morning and we near enough pass by your area of work on route home, we could be there first thing Monday morning, if to busy to fit me in, at short notice I obviously understand and will post it to you.

We should be able to fit it in Monday morning however we do have other customers currently booked in so if the job did turn out to be more involved than first thought then there could possibly be a small wait involved in order to get the vehicle into the workshop.
We have a large gravel car park that is covered by CCTV so if you wanted to arrive on Sunday and stay the night then you're more than welcome and, as we have a vehicle in at 9am, it would probably be easier to leave you in the car park and come take the unit to update it. We can refit and test with you there also and would only need to rethink things if it became apparent that there was more to the problem.
If that's all ok for you then Monday is fine.

I'm sorry, you threw away a £2000 satellite system even though you could of had it repaired under warranty? Seems a very strange thing to do if you ask me.
