Evening all! I hope that you are all safe and well this new year!!
So my planning head has gone into overdrive...February half term Sunday to Sunday...thinking NC250 🤔...starting in good old Haslington on Sunday afternoon and heading up to Scotland. Anyone done this and are the roads easy...thinking about the size of our Niesmann!

You'll manage the roads, just remember to use the passing places, don't get too close to the vehicle in front, allow traffic to overtake and practice reversing.
Take your time to take wee detours and you'll find some magical places.
Enjoy!

Slainte.

So are the roads very narrow all the way round?

What are the various parameters of your N&B?

So are the roads very narrow all the way round?

They are for probably 50% of the route (maybe a little less).

The only advice I’d give is don’t do the Applecross Pass, take the coast road in its stead.

Our Niesmann and Bischoff is just under 7m, and about 2.2 wide.
Whereabouts is the Applecross Pass?

The Applecross Pass runs from near Kishorn to Applecross across the top of big hill. The pass includes a few hairpin bends and can be problematic when it’s busy potentially necessitating reversing back up around a hairpin. At less than 7 m you should be ok but you should be prepared to reverse back into a passing place.

Oooh...that's making my toes curl sitting here on my sofa 🤣...Mr Grasmere is not the best navigator so think I am going to give that section a miss.

Apple-Cross Pass is on NC500 not 250 I believe.

This is the NC250...

I just popped it into Google maps and thought the same!

Apologies, I assumed that you were doing only a part of the NC500 through your use of the NC250 moniker. 🤭

Isn’t the 250 mile route around the NE of Scotland labelled the NE250?

Ian

That’s the NE250. I think you’re getting your routes mixed up. If you go 250 miles of the NC500 you’ll be stuck on the North coast 😂😂😂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🥃. Mind you there’s far worse places to be stuck.

Oops, schoolgirl error!! NE250 yes!

For anyone interested, there’s also the SW300. 👍

Ian
The NE 250 followed by the NC 500 and to finish off, the SW 300. Now there’s a thought.

I regularly work all around this area. I don't think you will have any problems with the roads, there not as bad (or good depending on your point of view) as further north. My MH is similar size and I'd happily drive it.

You’ll be fine with your van on the NE250, if you want a more relaxing trip I’d recommend the SW300. This will save you a days travel each way and will be lovely and quiet so an ideal route for beginners.

If you decide to do the SW300 feel free to ask for advice.

Just forget about the numbers and turn left off the M6 at Gretna.

Keep the water in sight on your left.

When you have had enough for the day, stop.

Repeat until you see the 'Welcome to England' sign at Berwick on Tweed.

Enjoy (y)

PS watch out for the Haggis in rutting season.

I just had a look at the SW300...it looks lovely...very different to other trips that I have done in Scotland (in a car)

All are great, the time that you have to enjoy the scenery decides which one to do this time leaving the other two for the future.

Coaches do the Applecross route so with care you have nothing to fear.

The weather will probably be better too! Still likely to be getting snow in the NE in February. Mind you we once got snowed in in March!

It’s snowing right here in Yorkshire now.
