N1-A15 e-tolls Northern Spain

I recall hearing that anything Over 3.5t is considered an HGV in Europe. Is that true?

How do they tell the difference between A MoHo at 3.85 t and one at 3.5t ? Or a Ducato van at 3.8t and a MoHo on a similar chassis?
That’s why maybe France has made you put stupid stickers on vehicles over 3.5 ton, I’ve now taken them off

Maybe by the registration number.
Yes but how many Motorhomes will they have to sift through to find the ones that are over 3.5 ton but if you have big yellow stickers saying angels mort you stick out like a good one

Maybe by the registration number.
As I have a French Crit’air sticker they know my details and have them linked to my Reg No. but Portugal and Spain do not.

surely it's a B-word bonus that foreign agencies no longer have access to our DVLA records therefore thy have no way of telling if it's 3500 kg or over?
That's worth checking to be sure that's the case...

Maybe some programme to alert them. I wouldn’t discount the fact that they don’t connect with the DVLA either, as early this year Spanish police were given more access to the DVLA over UK drivers by a driving agreement. Hence the crackdown on British drivers.
Why not just accept the fact that if over 3500kg you have to pay more, it is your choice to drive that weight to get a better payload anyway, also knowing this decision will cost you more, as does size on motorways abroad.

This is just a general comment, not aimed at anybody specifically.

Spain now has reciprocal access with the UK. France doesn't but if desperate will ask the dart crossing management company for info or if you have a criteria sticker you'v e given them info and fall back is epc plc, who manage many car parks and transport emission zones all over the Europe, are number 1 for EU debt collection and have no problems"sharing" any info held on their databases.
and Spain do not.
As above.they do now.

UPDATE

Managed to find a customer service number for that road.
They also had a button to speak in English. That made it so much easier.

So for future reference motorhomes are exempt from charge on the N1-A15 route out of San Sebastián or reverse.
The sign I posted is as it shows lorry commercial only over 3.5t

Motorhome over 3.5t are exempt from charge

Hope this helps for anyone in the future the customer service confirmed this.

I hope you got to Burgos ok. If you go to the campsite, be sure to buy the wine they have behind the reception desk. Local rioja and very good -and cheap.
Watch out for the wine throwing festival, it must be around now !

No delete all that , I am confused with Haro, sorry!
Still time for that, 27 - 30 june

Mad.
Bonkers.

Why would you pour gallons of wine over the heads of people around you? Is it that bad?

Yes we did thanks.
Had a few days rest in the aire. In town. Moving to Leon tomorrow I think
Prefer throwing wine down my throat if I’m honest. Not sure I could handle it being wasted like that (y)

Do they have all the data or just a transfer on request so they can assess tolls? And going back to my question- how do they know the difference? My V5C says I am a private heavy goods vehicle. Not a Motorhome……

Sounds good.
Across to Portugal for us up to Santiago and back across the top. No plan as such as never been before.
Will keep an eye open for the toll. Thanks

Just seen the link. That’s perfect as it states Hgv transporting goods over 3.5t only.

No mention of motorhomes over 3.5t
So much for Spain today. Set off to get to Portsmouth from Bournemouth and battery light didn’t go out! Went around the next roundabout and back the way we came from to localvery friendly garage. Found out alternator is kapoot. So here we are back at home with Moho down the road to be fixed. Should get back tomorrow. Managed to get on Fridays Santander boat🤞🤞just hope it’s fixed by then.2nd time lucky

Look on the bright side. Probably easier to sort where you are than just as you depart Santander.

Have a great trip. (y) When you get going that is:LOL:

I assume just like the speed cameras that flash because of the size of the vehicle. Lorries having a lower limit and you don’t get a ticket. They look at the photo’s first as they have cameras on them as well.

That makes sense, but it must be hugely labour intensive

Like PaddyM , we were at the San Sebastian aire three weeks ago for a couple of nights. First night I was squeezed on to the block paving at the end of a row. Both days there were 'overspill' vans opposite the Uni library. The payment meter is a bit idiosyncratic.

Spanish have access,,BUSBY.

So left Burgos today.
Remember to shop around for fuel. Filled up at €1.23.
What a lovely start to the day. = to £1.07. Seems like a lifetime ago since I paid that :dance2:

Hi Fragle, Well done for getting hold of the customer service team!

Just a thought, but as the OP of this thread, are you able to update the title to include "N1-A15 e-tolls" or something similar, as I think the discussion and findings will be very useful to forum members touring up through Northern Spain?

Hi Jim, I don't know if it's possible to update a thread title, but there is a lot of useful information on this thread about the new (this year) auto / e-tolls on the N1/A15 from the Burgos region to San Sebastian in Northern Spain. This is theoretically a toll-free route but this year they've introduced e-tolls for freight lorries, with signage that is a bit confusing for motorhome drivers.

If possible, please could the title could be updated to include "N1-A15 e-tolls Northern Spain" or something similar, it would help other forum members locate this information?

Just thought the same about contacting Jim as been searching with no luck. If I can’t I’ll repost the update and mention this thread

I’ve never been through a toll in France and been treated as a car, always as a lorry but in Spain we pay the same as a car. We are 3.5 tons. It was so expensive travelling up to Caen last year from Poitiers we are going to go to st malo this year and travel through Britanny where there are no tolls due to an ancient law put in place by Queen Anne that says no one will ever pay to travel on Breton roads. Does mean 8 hours on the boat however.

Just set sat nav for non toll.

I’ve not used a toll for years travelling up through France to Caen

Remember when we had a caravan and we used the toll €76 at the time to royan from Caen.
On the return we had more time so didn’t need toll and gave it a go.
More stops and starts but surprisingly not that much slower other than the extra stops we made in the fantastic places we found not on the toll. Also lots of dual carriageways. Not toll.

Never used them again. More relaxed and richer for it.

Great aire in leon

You are of course right. When we first started travelling to deux severs and we had a house there about 1995 there were very few toll roads comparatively. We had a Renault trafic and three boys! The main pain was the number of roundabouts. Just got out of the habit .

Great aire in leon
Yes we are sat here atm. The one by Decathlon

I walked to the other aire as well. Both are excellent well spaced and services. Easy walk into town.
Thinking Zamora next. About 1.5 hrs then across towards Portugal.

Absolutely loving Spain Aires system especially the fact they are right in the town. The people seem a little more respectful towards noise at night. No problems as yet and had good nights sleep.
First time in Spain definitely not the last. (y)
