Depends what sort of scenery and things you like but meandering through France you’ll be able to find vineyards you can stay overnight, lakeside and riverside parking, markets, historic villages. Aires, as you know, are plentiful and I found it easy to find one on the edge of a large village/ small town for shopping. You can find local market days online. I loved French markets and did most of my food shopping in my local ones.

Great aire at Verteuil sur Charente, south of Poitiers in a lovely little town with river, park and chateau. Cost 2 euros a night with 16 amp electric and toilets. Just ring number by hook up and they will come from the Mayors office to plug you in. Well worth a stop.
