Just trying to get peoples views on ultrasonic type mouse deterrents. We currently put mousetraps in the engine under the bonnet after suffering from wires being chewed last year. Hubby thinks we should try one of the ultrasonic type but not sure how successful they are.

If you do a search, there are lots of threads on this topic..
However, never had any experience with ultrasonis devices, but if memory serves they were not well thought of by funsters on here...
Sure someone be along shortly with more definitive answer..👍👍👍

I often stand on an underground station platform and see the mice running around the live railway tracks with the trains incoming.

It must deafen them

Think Radio 4 ‘Best thing since sliced bread’ couple of days ago reviewed them. Don’t think they came out very well. Vermin get used to the sound.

I heard that prog too and the sonic devices didn't get much support. It amused me to hear an expert say that the hearing of 'older' mice and rats deteriorates to the point when they can't hear the high frequency anyway.

We had an old holiday cottage in France tried many different ultrasonic rubbish. Peppermint oil did it for us
And peppermint tea bags slightly damp

A few weeks ago I worked in a pantry that had two electric mouse deterrents in it. The mice had eaten through the plasterboard beside them to gain access.
They don’t work b

You could do worse than listen to this podcast about pest control on BBC Sounds https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m00202lx

I still leave traps for the odd deaf mouse.

It may be deaf but not daft.

This is a much better trap.......

After struggling for a deterrent, and using U/ sound amongst other things, I was told about...... 'Fox Pee'.... in desperation I sent off for a can ( 1/2 ltr) from e-bay...... sprayed all around the engine compartment and the tyres..... not had a problem since.

I have a couple that flash a couple of leds and make a rattling noise. No idea if they work as I always set traps too. Haven't caught any this year. Main thing is remove anything edible and things they like for nesting like bog rolls.

We use peppermint oil or a fiery hot spicey sauce on a small ‘dish’ of foil.
Needs to be renewed occasionally.

For a minute I thought you meant play radio 4 to the mice to deter them.

We have our motorhome in a storage yard and we are up against the hedge, so field mice come exploring.
I used a repellent powder, though you can get spray versions too.
I doesn’t smell of anything to us but makes the mice think other mice/rats are already there so they avoid the area.
I put it underneath around the wheels. I’d had a nest in the air filter prior to using this but nothing since.

The peppermint mice detterant coating spray (needs to be renewed every 6 mo) worked a treat when we had a mouse visit us in storage. No mouse visits afterwards (touching wood).

The mistake a lot of people make is putting mouse & rat bait INSIDE the motorhome.
This is the last place it should be as it's designed to attract them.

If in storage, remove ALL foodstuffs and put bait, at least, a metre from vehicle and definitely NOT under the bonnet.

Good luck! 👍

Traps are best.
You get the evidence of every successful kill.
You still need to find a siutable location and bait, though, which is not easy.
A cat might be the best solution.
