Mounting a Tandem bike on the rear of a PVC anyone done it seen it (1 Viewer)

Hi Now we have a PVC rather than our previous much wider van the Tandem is causing a bit of head scratching to configure a solution to transport it.
Has anyone seen one mounted upright on a rear door

I did once follow one like that. Wheels removed and handles turned but upright

My son and DIL are currently on hol touring NZ by car for 3 months with their tandem. I'll ask him for a pic of the bike carrier.
When travelling back home in U.K. he transports it across the back of their Chausson Welcome m/h.

Can I carry my tandem on a bumper carrier?

I would sometimes like to transport my tandem by car, and it would be convenient to use one of those "strap-on" bumper carriers. Is it feasible to use this type of carrier?

Another options is split the tandem in two using S&S Couplers

Expensive, and may not be suitable for retrofit ( depending on your frame type) but a possibility.

We had friends that carried their tandem across the back of an estate car, yes it looked very wide, we had other friends that carried theirs diagonal on the back of a land rover, ours went inside the Motorhome garage with the front wheel removed, how long is your tandem? as they do vary by a good few inches and how wide is your van?

I also saw a tandem carried diagonally, looked like a normal Fiamma rack with one wheel tied higher up. I suppose you could fit the wheel troughs at an angle but would not be able to fold it then.

I transported my tandem locked to a regular thule bikerack on the back of the motorhome.
The rear wheel sat in the normal wheel fixing with the fixing at the furthest point outwards and the front bottom bracket sat in the other wheel fixing with the front wheel hanging down.
I could just see the edge of both wheels in the wing mirrors, so only slightly wider then the van.

Yes we I have a bike rack still i altered and works perfect for across our old van probably like the Chausson our new van is just a Renault Master Panel van so much narrower

Hase Pino, folds flat and telescopes in. expensive but actually fits along with our scooter and other stuff in garage

Thanks for all your replies have decided to give up on the idea and bought 2 electric folding bikes

Well for storage yes most definately. Our trip to ILE DE RE last september we hired a Tamdom it was quite windy and flat it was so much more hard work than we remembered before covid.(must be all those yorkshire puddings and pork pies) but to be honest i dont want to go through that again. I started the thread wanting to take our Tamdom and my idea of converting it to electric.
