Like a lot of people, I use my phone for Navigation, Spotify etc. Up to now, I have had it mounted off a bracket mounted on the windscreen. I now want to move it, and utilise the space above the radio - as per photo (with an old phone)

What is the name of the removable " pocket"? I will need to modify it - add supports, drill holes etc, and if possible I would rather do that to another one, so I can reinstate it later.

It's a long shot I know, but has anyone got an old one that is surplus after fitting a double DIN unit? :giggle:

I can highly recommend Brodit mounts if there is one available for your MH

Having read the OP maybe my post is meaningless... I can't see a way to delete it sorry :censored:

Not at all meaningless! It's always best to explore all options. I'm not keen on mounts on ventilation grills, which is why I thought of a different solution. :giggle:

Yes I use a brodit mount. It is in a holder that clips into the air vent, which is excellent to keep the phone cool, in Spain it would overheat and knacker the battery in no time without it.

Best bet would be to change the radio for a double din unit with apple / android car play.

you can then also use your phone while driving, receive and send text messages, play UK radio (such as bbc radio 2) while abroad, and use sat nav while driving
you can also watch tv/video/you tube etc while stationary

Yes I know! I'm kicking myself that I bought a new single DIN DAB radio a few years ago. I should have got a double DIN then. :(

There’s no pint kicking yourself we all have to make decisions with only the available information, and hind site is a wonderful thing.

Try googling car radio mounting box - there’s loads there. I did something similar with one of these and blanking plate drillled for auxiliary switches..

I bought one of these to hold my sat nav and was so pleased I bought another for my car. It is adjustable so takes my phone also. Can highly recommend and ?it has never dropped off my dash!!

It’s called single DIN box, double DIN would take the space of the radio as well.

If you have an Ikea nearby try one of these. It clips under the unit on top of dash...an elastic band around the short side and you can slip a phone or tablet in and out easily . I use it for my tablet. I did have to spray it black to stop reflections..

Thanks! Do you have it stuck to the dashboard?

That looks good, and similar to what I was trying to achieve. As I've said, my clipboard does not raise. Does this just utilise the "clip" (which I do have)?

I use one of these in the cup holder. Very effective and convenient to access as required

Cup Phone Holder for Car,
Amazon product ASIN B07Q83ZLRX
We use one of those as well it’s very stable and you can change it from vehicle to vehicle

My Ducato is 2013 and does not have the lifting unit. The Ikea rest just uses the spring clip near the windscreen and 2 plastic stick on door stops just under the tablet in the picture . These stop any sideways movement. Well worth trying as it only cost £2.!!

The problem with the Brodts is that it's 20 odd quid every time you change your phone. The one I'm using at the moment is for my last HTC phone, so I've put some tape down each side. 👌🤣

Revolvor - yes it clamps onto a round disk which I have permanently stuck on the dash. Attached photo shows the disk and the holder separated.
