I am looking at getting a MiFi for when I travel abroad in the motorhome.
I have an iboost from Addie at motorhomewifi, and was wondering whether it would work to find a 3g/4g
For the MiFi as well as it does a WiFi signal?
Also I know this has been done to death, but does anyone have some up to date recommendations for a MiFi?

The iBoost won't find a 3 or 4g signal. It is only for connecting to a WiFi signal.

Some mifi also connect to WiFi but they don't boost it, unlike the iBoost. TBH this feature of a mifi is of little use in a MH. If the mifi can connect to a WiFi signal then so can your devices though I guess it might be possible to share a paid connection this way.

The MiFi’s I have been researching say they have a better range than a mobile phone or am I reading that wrong?

The manufacturer's would say that wouldn't they! Not in my experience with our Huawei model or if there is a difference it is so marginal as to be of no practical use. If you want to connect to WiFi use an iBoost. But data is now so cheap using a mifi and a sim card makes more sense for most folk. Add an external antenna for good reception in marginal areas.

As an aside I did a test last week at the C&CC site at Devizes where mobile signals are a bit weak.

This is my phone on its own.

A 3Mb download speed is usable but it isn't ideal.

This is the result through the Huawei 5577 mifi and a Poynting MIMO 1 antenna on the roof.

They look good and get good write ups, but like you say quite expensive!

They may be referring to those MiFis that can accept an external aerial. Mine does and when connected is much better than my iPhone.

What MiFi do you use?

To make the best use an external antenna you want a MiFi with two antenna connections, such as the Huawei 5577 although there are others. These allow you to connect a MiMo antenna which is better than a simple antenna with one cable.

Huawei mifi in Spain, ping not good but no issues streaming.

We bought a MiFi unit from Motorhome WiFi and it is just like being at home. The MiFi connects over the 3g/4g network and it puts out a WiFi signal for use in the van. It's brilliant!! We bought a Smarty sim for £10 for 30gb a month on a 1 month contract. Any data you don't is used to discount the next months £10.(at least that's how we understand it) They use the 3 network.

We finally went for a Huawei 5577 mifi and a Poynting MIMO 1 antenna ready for our Easter holiday to France.Needless to say we hav`nt tried it yet! 😞

Don’t worry about it to much but it might be worth reading this post

I think you will find that does not work with the 30GB plan. That only works on the plans that you pay £5 plus £1 per GB of data
