We are taking our van back to our dealer to have the Air Conditioning attended to, a normal visit in normal times but in order to protect the workers from customers potential infections, this visit requires everything (EVERYTHING) to be removed from the van. The bedding wrapped in plastic bags and put into the toilet/shower area as with anything we may need for an overnight stay.
To be honest I have quite enjoyed the experience, finding things we had forgotten. We have taken over a whole room and half a garage to achieve this.
The logic is sound and I wonder how many other dealers are doing the same. On arrival they will fumigate the van with a cleansing fog and on completion of the work before we get the van back, they will do it again to protect us from them.

That’s all very well but we full time in ours so it wouldn’t be feasible, I wonder what they would do then.

Ours has just been into the factory service centre and we all wore masks even outside when we were booking in but other than that is was business as usual.

That will be interesting then. Monday week, ours goes to the repairer to straighten out the damage inflicted by a car backing into the front offside!. NO mention of removing stuff from the van though. As far as I am aware. They will only have to access the van to move it.

Recently had a few minor issues sorted on our new motorhome. Masks at reception and dealer cleaned afterwards, but no need to remove anything ( we booked it in on our way home from 10 day trip) Does seem rather draconian.

I wanted a replacement electric step fitted to the underside of the van at my Rapido dealership - Highbridge Caravans - they required the van to be parked up on their premises for 3 days before they would start work on it, then I think another 3 days after the job was completed prior to collection. And perhaps it was a 1 - 1.5 hours job?

Oh, and not to mention a ten week wait before they could book it in. :(

I got a local bodyshop to do it for me the day after I rang them - cost significantly less too. (y)

That’s extreme and almost pointless unless you can remove the steering wheel and all the door handles.
Basic hygiene and PPE is still required no matter how much kit is removed.
If the risk of contact infection was so high then taxi drivers wouldn’t be able to operate.
Needs a common sense approach but it appears not as common as it should be.

I think rosalan's dealer should be congratulated for taking the threat of contamination seriously.
On our news bulletin tonight we heard of someone who contracted Covid-19 from a waste bin lid in their isolation hotel room.
It's that easy to pass on even with all the deep cleaning that goes on in the quarantine hotels.
I am often appalled by some people's lack of conscience when it comes to sticking to the rules around this pandemic.
I am also appalled at my own instant reaction to hearing the news that Donald Trump and his wife have got Covid-19. I am ashamed to say I was delighted to hear it.

Don't be ashamed you won't be alone in thinking that!!

I think it is perhaps over the top to ask for everything to be removed, after all, where they going to be in contact with the bedding? The fog idea is great, but does that leave a residue that then has to be cleaned?

In my opinion, if they wore proper ppe, not just masks,, but disposable overalls, masks and gloves, then that would surely protect them, and its showing the customer respect in that they are trying to protect them too. A few wearing masks and some not is just pointless and the management should be instructing their workforce to all wear masks.

As far as some commercial dealers for trucks? Here in norfolk it's hard work trying to get fitters to put seat covers on to protect the upholstery from grease, let alone ppe to stop viral spread? I wouldnt mind some of that fog stuff for when we go in for inspection?

It sounds like They were just trying to put you off, to smaller job for them.

I think given the space the 3 day quarantine would be a much better option. I didn't really get the bedding in a plastic bag bit as the virus lives longer on plastics than fabric although it might be the misting chemical needs keeping off bedding. I hope the fogging is a recognised machine I think there are quite a few people selling non certified kit that probably doesn't do a lot.

I might also have come to that conclusion except, unfortunately, it reflects a track record experienced over a number of years.

Nothing to do with Covid-19, have you heard of another dealer that always requires the van for seven days to undertake a habitation service? Additionally, the service is required to be booked a minimum of 4 to 6 months in advance.

We went to Simpsons Great Yarmouth , Norfolk , they seemed to be very safety conscious or it may be they knew what I am like !
Slightly off Post, I find it incredible that any Workshop needs 10 weeks to repair / service a vehicle, when we owned a Commercial and Car garage we carried out jobs within a week if the customer wanted it done and parts available , and sometimes if urgent we worked the hours required , but, our hardest job was most Hauliers wanted the Trucks repaired before the vehicle broke down !!

Rent a storage facility for a few days.......that way you can have a clear out and get the MoHo sorted as well

It’s fine as premium motorhomes have a different less restrictive regime.
I was just making a point that full timers would be very upset if that was there warranty garage/dealer

From personal experience that could be Highbridge without the Covid excuse....

When it's empty they 'fog' it to 'sterilise' the inside..
Surely they could do the same with your belongings inside just as effectively.
Depends what the fog is!!! It's hard to think of many antibacterial things apart from UV and heat that are going to leave no residue.

Our van has just been in and had a roof vent fitted ( Thursday ) collected Friday am, plastic seat cover removed, interior given a wipe down, duplicated by myself before driving.
Taken pm to a Fiat dealership for a service, collected two hours later, told it had been given a wipe down, again I gave all the controls another sanitation clean up and driven home.
I have parked the van up and will not touch anything on the habitation side for three days to allow any bug to dissipate.

Fingers x’d !

How do they know they caught covid from a waste bin lid?🤣🤣And you should be appalled at your reaction to hearing another human being has caught a disease you are so terrified of getting yourself. What a nasty piece of work you are. But what goes round...
Like Mr Trump has been so sympathetic to those poor soles who have lost family members to the disease  perhaps what goes around came around?
