A few weeks ago we went to brixham for 4 night in a chalet cost of hire and fuel £ 276, chalet lot more room and had a car.
Motorhome pitch and fuel £ 248 no car live in motorhome.

Doing it again tomorrow Somerset.
4 night chalet fuel £239 again more room and a car.
Motorhome pitch fuel 210 No car.
Chalet were low rate.
Can’t beat motorhoming.

I understand what you are saying RDS123. In my own particular case it might be chalet £x plus a month in hospital after gluten poisoning ....... motorhome gluten free.

For me no amount of £ would make up for a "lost" month or more.

We have considered buying a static but still prefer the freedom of motorhome and toad in U.K.
We have both, a static in France a Motorhome we sometime take to France !! Wouldn't be without either of them !!

Welcome to Fun!

 However, I can't see the point you're making.

It depends upon which suits the purpose of the trip best. Both scenarios are about the same day to day cost. I use chalets and hotels in the U.K., especially when I'm staying in one place for a few days or more. I use the m/home mainly for its flexibility when I'm having an unplanned wandering tour abroad, moving on every two or three days, taking pot luck as to where I fetch up for the night.
I guess a benefit of having the m/h in your examples is if affordability is an issue since it enables you to have less expensive meals.

I think if it’s just price you may be right but surely the whole point of a MH is freedom. I can go where I want, when I want. I don’t have to worry that the site where the chalets are may be closed due to “out of season” or not available due to being high season and all booked.

In addition, having booked chalets for the last few years for the kids/grandkids the standards vary a lot whereas we know exactly the standard of our MH. Also the MH is always ready to go, just a few clothes in a plastic crate and we are on the road.

If the weather is rubbish where we are we can move on but not in a chalet.

Each to their own though.

Our MHoming (aires/wild) costs nothing like the figures quoted.

Another aspect is the flexibility of dates - we were planning to leave on Tues next, but now it is Wed, but could be Thur.

MH stays packed with duplicate clothes/bedding and all bathroom stuff - so only food/drink needed, but that is same with a chalet.

We have an idea of first night, but if we want to stop earlier we do not need an hotel.

Our 'mobile chalet' has travelled from Spain to Greece and Greece to Scotland in 10 years, plus all in between.

Welcome to Fun 🤩

As already said, it’s a lifestyle and definitely not about money, or none of us would own one!!

It's difficult to evaluate your example as the fuel cost element is undetermined. I can only assume that the fuel element was comparatively small and pitch fees at the top end of what most would pay. CL's, THS and wild camping would make it look a whole lot different. As Mark Twain or Disraeli ( attributed to both) observed, there are lies, damn lies and statistics.

Why would you eat any differently?

Yes you do on all three counts. Sold our ludicrously expensive Static at Haven site in Pwehelli in Feb.
Not if you are hiring though as I thought the OP was saying.

Why would you eat any differently?
Because I have a medical condition that requires absolute absence of contamination and a strict adherence to "the diet". No chalet used by others could possibly get to the standard of decontamination that is considered safe for me.

I rarely eat out - and then only ever in recently vetted and tested establishments that comply with the strict codex requirements. And yes, it is a complete nightmare.

Ha welcomed! Good opening post 👍. Guess it depends what you’re after? It’s a bit like saying cat or dog? Maybe the answer’s both. But only if you own the chalet and have sole use.

Same here...only north Wales
But motorhome comes into its own when the season closes Nov to march
