Hello all,

We have bought our first Motorhome in May after caravanning for the past 4 years. We have come across a very annoying intermittent beeping/chirping noise. When we are away at caravan sites it doesn’t do it. It only does it when it’s parked on our driver is either locked or unlocked. Hooked up the electric or not. The batteries are reading good on the control panel. We just don’t know what’s causing it. It’s a Auto-Trail Tracker RB 2013. We just doesn’t understand what is causing it and it’s become a pain. I can imagine it’s a booting for our neighbours too.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks Flora & Dave

Makes no sense at all if on hook up on site and at home there is no difference

When away do you alarm it or lock it? That is the only thing I can think might be different

If the van has a CO detector it could be detecting hydrogen release from hab batteries if van is sealed ie all windows and skylights and doors closed. Opening the door to go into the van will rapidly deplete the levels and the CO readings will look normal. If on a site you will be opening doors skylights, windows etc often enough tp prevent a build up to the level that will trigger the alarm. If you do not have a CO detector then it cant of course be the fault

That's what I meant/was thinking but don't have the technical terminology. :(

When we switch our fridge off at the end of a trip we leave the doors slightly open to let it 'air'.
If the door is left in the same position when switched on with either gas, 12v or ehu it beeps an alarm.
Are you possibly leaving your gas turned on when you are at home and the fridge is running?

Edit just beaten to it :)

What alarm do you have? Could it be something on that? Are you sure it’s your van that’s doing it? Could it be another vehicle close by?
I only say this as years ago I was called to an alarm sounding supposedly smoke detector I changed it twice only to be called back again and finally discovered a co2 alarm hidden behind a panel. Very devious these alarms???

We have now un hooked and turn everything off. It is still doing it. We tested the CO alarm earlier. I understand it doesn't make sense. Its a high pitched chirp/beep on the outside. Unsure of our alarm make so will have a look in the morning. All we have we do whilst at home and on site is simply lock it on the key, as at home its always boxed in with other vehicles. Thank you.

Are you now fully retired? You do know there is no such alarm in domestic life ? CO yes, carbon monoxide, CO2 very specialised industrial only alarm ?

Is it some kind of proximity alarm if its boxed in?

I'm sorry I don't know what you mean by proximity alarm? apologies :-/
Some kind of alarm similar to a reversing alarm when the vehicle gets too close to something behind it. I just wondered if being boxed in by other vehicles could be the cause.

I had a strange beeping coming from mine not long after getting it (used), and it was a box that contained the towbar electrics (canbus doofa thing) that would just beep for no reason. Had to swap it for a new one, although removing the power supply worked as a temporary solution.
I know it doesn’t make sense regarding your away/home scenario, but worth a check if you have a tow bar

Do you have aftermarket reversing sensors. Some are fitted with sensors that beep if someone parks too close.

Water being empty or waste being full ? Try turning off the control panel and see if the bleep/chirp still exists.

So it doesn't do it if you are away from home. So park it round the corner and then walk back home and see if you still have the annoying sound where the MH normally sits.

Disconnecting the hab and starter batteries one after the other would narrow your search considerably.

My beeping was the tyre pressure unit that it bought and Velcro’s to the dashboard. It took ages to find it as it is solar powered I put a tea towel over it and walls it stopped

I was going to suggest “Try not to park on your driver”! as a solution, only now mentioned it because your sorted ??

How old is your leisure battery and in a previous life had it been fully discharged? This can cause and intermittent beep/chirp from the control panel above the hab' door if it's struggling to charge. it's similar to the elektroblock set up on Hymers.

Secondly check the external power connections to the drop down step, ( it's quite easy to slide under) admittedly it rare but if damaged or severely weathered they've been known to do something similar
